IBM Makes Deal for Largest DW in the World

DeTeCSM will run the world's biggest Data Warehouse on behalf of Deutsche Telekom AG. IBM will be Deutsche Telekom's partner and technology supplier. A 100 TeraByte Data Warehouse is planned on the basis of the IBM RS/6000 SP Servers and the IBM DB2 Universal Database EEE.

Deutsche Telekom decided to use IBM hardware and software in their own Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Projects as well as for their subsidiaries throughout the whole group. In addition, a close co-operation was agreed on concerning this project and the development of other products.

The agreement includes the creation by DeTeCSM of one of the world's biggest data warehouses, with a data stock of some 25 terabytes in the initial phase and a planned 100 terabytes in the final phase. It will serve to optimize the services and products offered to Deutsche Telekom's customers.

This data warehouse has been conceived and developed by the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary T-Nova, which is to integrate the application and platform for a state-of-the-art information system as a general contractor. The initial stage of the operation is planned for the third quarter in 2000. Within the Telekom Group, T-Nova is responsible for the development of information systems, products and services, as well as for corresponding research. Furthermore, T-Nova offers support for launches and operations. Deutsche Telekom has concentrated their development activities in the IT and TK sectors in this subsidiary founded in mid-1999 and owned by the parent company. DeTeCSM is involved in the co-operation as the IT service provider of the Deutsche Telekom Group. Within the framework of its solution-sourcing activities, DeTeCSM provides its clients with comprehensive and customer-orientated Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Solutions.

Frank Pollmann, project leader at DeTeCSM says, "We decided to use the IBM solution because it was well-balanced and scored high in all areas relevant to Deutsche Telekom. With this project we proof our competence as a service provider of Business Intelligence Solutions and extend our portfolio for solution sourcing."
