New Book By English To Hit Shelves Soon - In Japan
Larry P. English, President of Information Impact International, Inc., Brentwood, TN, has just returned from Japan where he was presented with the first copy of his book, "Improving Data Warehouse and Business Information Quality: Methods for Reducing Costs and Increasing Profits" in Japanese. The Japanese version of the introduction (first four chapters) is presently available with the entire book translation available April 2000.
NTT DATA, an information services and consulting company spun off from the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, is translating the book. NTT DATA is the first information systems organization to win the Deming Prize for Quality. Of the three books presently available on Information Quality, they chose English's to translate and use with their clients. "I am very honored that my book has been selected to be translated into the language of the country that led the first quality revolution."
Mr. Takashi Imai of NTT DATA, one of the translators, says, "We believe that Mr. English's TQdM® methodology is a differentiator for our services." According to English, "information quality management is a critical success factor for survival in the new millennium. In the same way that the Japanese-led quality improvement revolution transformed the world economics in the industrial age, so also will information quality management transform the economics of the 'realized' Information Age." In his book he illustrates how organizations may be squandering as much as 10-25% of their operating revenue or budget in the costs of "information scrap and rework" and process failure that have been ignored or accepted as 'normal costs' of doing business. "The costs of fixing the 'Y2K' problem are costs of nonquality data design-not simply a 'programming shortcut,' he says.
Mr. English has now chaired and led six Information Quality Conferences in North America and Europe with two more slated for 2000. An Information Quality Conference is being planned in Tokyo in 2001.
