INFORMIX AND SABRE EXPAND RELATIONSHIP WITH LICENSE AGREEMENTInformix Corporation has signed an enterprise license agreement with Sabre. The new agreement, which will be used by both Sabre's electronic travel distribution business and its information technology solutions business, defines Informix as a "preferred provider" of technology to Sabre, and positions Informix as the underlying technology powering functionality for a company that books roughly 40% of all travel reservations worldwide, and provides products or services to virtually every major airline in the world. As part of the agreement, Sabre will deploy three key Informix software solutions: Informix Internet Foundation.2000, to enhance analysis of Sabre's vast wealth of travel data; Informix Extended Parallel Server (XPS), to create and manage extremely large and sophisticated data warehouses; and Informix DataStage, to connect Sabre's various data sources, as well as to create data marts for more specific analysis. "In the travel and airline business, decisions ranging from minor fare changes to the deployment of huge fixed assets, like aircraft, cannot be delayed and must be made based on sound business intelligence," said Jean-Yves Dexmier, president and chief executive officer of Informix. "Informix leads the industry with its ability to offer customers end-to-end integrated e-commerce and business intelligence solutions, coupled with massively scalable transaction processing. We are extremely pleased to announce our agreement with Sabre, which underscores our ability to meet the needs of leading companies in some of the most demanding business environments." Sabre's Application division will be using Informix technology as the basis for "Next Generation Sabre," an initiative to add significant enhancements to its flagship reservation system. Among the new system's enhancements that take advantage of the speed of Informix's OLTP (online transaction processing) capabilities, is a new feature that will provide almost instantaneous updating of an enormous data warehouse from the moment a sales agent concludes a transaction. Thus, Sabre will provide their travel and transportation industry customers with the ability to analyze this data in real time, enabling them to react faster to trends in passenger movements and to tailor marketing and pricing initiatives to dynamic changes in demand. Informix's technical leadership and extensive consulting support were key factors in Sabre's decision. "We chose Informix because of their strong technology for both OLTP and OLAP database applications and their collaborative technical support," stated Craig Murphy, senior vice president, Sabre Applications.
