HYPERION TO DELIVER MARKET-LEADING OLAP SERVER ON LINUX

Helping companies capitalize on the move towards open, interoperable Web-enabled enterprise business analysis solutions, Hyperion has announced the signing of a developer partner agreement with Red Hat Software, Inc., the leading provider of open source solutions and developer of the award-winning Red Hat Linux open-source operating system.

Under the development and marketing agreement, Hyperion will deliver a new version of Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server optimized for Red Hat Linux, uniting the market's leading open, cross-platform OLAP (online analytical processing) server with the world's fastest growing, award-winning operating system.

The offering will enable customers and alliance partners to use Hyperion Essbase to build and deploy a wide range of sophisticated, Web-enabled analytic solutions, such as CRM, e-business, balanced scorecard, and other business performance analytic applications, to thousands of users across the enterprise at a very low total cost of ownership.

Linux is rapidly gaining momentum, particularly as a platform for Web applications, with industry analysts predicting significant growth among enterprises planning to deploy Linux as a platform for e-commerce. Furthermore, market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), which already names Hyperion the market share leader in OLAP, estimates that commercial shipments of Linux will grow faster than the total shipments of all other client or server operating systems through 2003.

IDC research also estimates that Linux was the fastest-growing server operating environment in 1998, growing more than 212 percent in that year alone and capturing more than 17 percent of all server operating system shipments. Today, Linux boasts more than 10 million users worldwide. These estimates validate the significant opportunity for enterprise analytical solutions on Linux.

"Today's announcement will give our customers and partners the best of both worlds -- combining our world-class OLAP server with the stable and open Linux operating system," said Steve Fioretti, vice president of marketing for Hyperion. "Our customers and partners rely on Hyperion's open platform to drive sophisticated analytic applications that improve the top- and bottom-line. Our partnership with Red Hat reinforces our commitment to supporting the diverse platforms of the enterprise, and providing maximum choice and flexibility to our customers."

The Red Hat developer partnership solidifies Hyperion's leadership in delivering the most comprehensive OLAP platform across diverse Web and client/server environments running on HP-UX, IBM S/390, IBM-AIX, IBM AS/400, Sun Solaris, Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and now Linux. This platform breadth and strong commitment to Linux enables strategic alliance partners such as IBM to leverage Hyperion products within its e-business, business intelligence and new Enterprise Information Portal offerings.

"Our customers are increasingly demanding leading edge, Web-enabled, business intelligence solutions," said Dr. Tilak Agerwala, vice president of UNIX marketing and product management for the IBM Enterprise Systems Group. "The availability of Hyperion's OLAP server on Linux, in addition to AIX, OS/390, and OS/400, expands the range of platforms for important business intelligence solutions, giving our customers significantly better choice and flexibility."
