Peregrine to Use Cognos for WWW BI

Peregrine Systems, Inc., a leading provider of Infrastructure Management software and e-Infrastructure solutions, has previewed a new product family that provides the industry's first business intelligence solution for Infrastructure Management. Peregrine Systems Insight, powered by Cognos' enterprise business intelligence solutions, will allow customers to understand and analyze the performance of their global infrastructure, including IT assets, buildings and real estate holdings, transportation and fleet resources, and to improve operating efficiency and effectiveness for competitive advantage. Peregrine Systems and Cognos, the leading strategic vendor of enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) solutions for e-business, previewed the new product at the Peregrine Systems Worldwide Users' Conference, Synergy2000, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Insight provides a powerful set of applications for viewing key performance indicators across the entire infrastructure -- the performance of all assets, including real estate, capital equipment, and transportation assets -- and tying them into internal support systems such as the corporate help desk. Using Insight, customers can answer questions such as, how much is my infrastructure costing me per employee, by division, or by asset type? The addition of Cognos' business intelligence solutions allows users to drill down and reorganize data on the fly to isolate key performance metrics data and guide the decision-making process. The Web-based application gives users anywhere in the organization access to data based on their role -- whether an executive, a facilities supervisor, or a corporate asset manager. Insight gives customers the power to make more timely, informed decisions and gain the competitive advantage they require in today's marketplace.

"Peregrine Systems products have always been about helping organizations understand what they have, what it's costing them, and how well it's working," said Bill Keyworth, vice president of product marketing at Peregrine Systems. "With Insight, Peregrine Systems customers will now have unprecedented capabilities to answer these questions, using the industry's leading Web-based business intelligence tools. The ability to quickly visualize and analyze key metrics using Cognos tools will give customers critical insight into their infrastructure performance, and empower them to dramatically cut costs and improve their operational effectiveness."

"Web-enabled business intelligence is a critical component to gaining the insight necessary to improve corporate infrastructure efficiencies and effectiveness," said John Warne, META Group program director. "The addition of a powerful BI component to Peregrine Systems Infrastructure Management suite will provide tremendous benefit to Peregrine Systems customers."

Insight is powered by Cognos' leading Web-based reporting and online analytical processing (OLAP) technology. At Synergy2000, Peregrine Systems and Cognos previewed Insight modules for Peregrine Systems ServiceCenter consolidated service desk application, FacilityCenter facilities management application, AssetCenter asset management application, as well as a cross-system integration enabling simultaneous analysis across infrastructure type.

"Peregrine Systems vision of Infrastructure Management is extremely compelling for large organizations," said Ted Jandl, Cognos area vice president of North American partner channel sales. "The introduction of Cognos business intelligence solutions within Peregrine Systems Insight will amplify the benefits of Peregrine Systems offerings, providing dynamic, enterprise-wide e-business solutions. Our combined customers can embrace Infrastructure Management with the flexibility of the Web, optimize business performance and accelerate time-critical decision-making for executives, managers and employees."
