Delta Air Uses Documentum Products For Website

Documentum, a leading provider of Internet-scale content management solutions for powering e-business applications, announced that Documentum products are key enablers in Delta Airlines' newly redesigned Website www.delta-air.com. The products are being used by Delta to pre-assemble, track and control versions of text and graphics objects that are displayed on Delta's Web page by the E-Commerce Transaction Platform from BEA Systems Inc, a Documentum sales and marketing partner. Delta is a featured customer at Documentum's e-business strategy launch held in New York City.

"Our Website is a central element in our business strategy," said Wayne Hyde, vice president of ePartners at Delta Air Lines. "With a growing target of annual ticket sales, we cannot afford any downtime. That's why we have worked so hard to create a reliable, high-performance infrastructure, a key component of which is the Documentum solution. We view Documentum as a critical element in allowing us to meet our e-commerce objectives." Delta is currently using Documentum products to stage objects that are used in creating Web pages, selecting Documentum for a number of reasons, including its scalability. "At any given time we may have fewer than 1000 or as many as 12,000 individuals logged onto our site simultaneously," Hyde said, "and with our infrastructure we can service all transaction requests, at all times, equally well, regardless of loading conditions."

Another benefit to Delta is Documentum's ability to support dynamic assembly of objects. "At the present time we find that pre-assembling objects allows us to optimize Web page response time for our customers," Hyde said, "but we wanted a solution that provided alternatives should it make sense to change our approach in the future. With the Documentum solution we have those options."

"We are delighted to be playing such a vital role for Delta, enabling the company to meet their performance, reliability, and scalability requirements," said Jeff Miller, CEO of Documentum. "We hope that the care and attention Delta has paid to creating an infrastructure that provides their customers with the highest possible level of service will be emulated throughout the e- commerce industry."
