DynCorp Wins Medical Integrity Program ContractDynCorp, a leading information technology and outsourcing solutions firm, has announced that its Healthcare Information Technology Services (HITS) business unit has won a contract to provide statistical analysis services in support of the Medical Integrity Program (MIP). The MIP was established in 1996 to strengthen the Health Care Financing Administration's (HCFA) ability to combat Medicare fraud and abuse. The one-year contract with four option year has a potential total value of $20 million. DynCorp was selected by HCFA from among six competing firms to establish a Statistical Analysis Center. DynCorp has established the center in Columbia, Md. The highly specialized statistical and analytic fraud detection services provided by the center will help spot healthcare utilization trends and identify systemic patterns of abuse within the Medicare program. In addition, the center will provide HCFA, its fiscal intermediaries and carriers, and other federal agencies and contractors with training in using these analytical techniques to detect fraud. The center will initially perform analysis and research services in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. "The ability to accurately and quickly data mine large volumes of claims data using state-of-the-art fraud detection technology is a major factor in preventing healthcare waste and abuse," said Ted Gaskell, vice president of DynCorp HITS. DynCorp's HITS unit already provides medical records abstraction services to HCFA from centers in Columbia as well as in York, Pa.
