Datawatch Announces Monarch V5 - Monarch V5 Pro

Datawatch Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise reporting solutions, data transformation tools and support center software, announced the immediate upgrade availability of Monarch Version 5 Standard Edition and Monarch Version 5 Professional Edition - which offers all the capabilities of the Standard Edition plus the ability to import and join data from popular databases and ODBC data sources.

Monarch is a industry-leading report-mining tool that allows PC users to easily access, extract, and manipulate data from any existing computer-generated report. Monarch V5 is significantly more capable than its predecessor. It offers much better summary and analysis capabilities, and an improved user interface. Version 5 also provides enhanced data manipulation and formatting abilities, faster summary performance and improved exporting and printing capabilities. Upgrading is easy: Both Editions of Version 5 install in minutes and reads model files created with earlier versions of Monarch.

"Anyone who wants to analyze or use the data contained in a paper report should have a copy of Monarch Version 5 on their PC," said John Kitchen, vice president of marketing at Datawatch. "Instead of printing reports out on static paper, Monarch transforms reports into an easy-to-use spreadsheet-like format. Once a report is imported into Monarch, out comes live data that users can view, query, filter, analyze, graph and export to other applications such as spreadsheets and databases.

"Monarch V5 Standard and Professional Editions are big steps forward in the evolution of Monarch," continued Kitchen. "They incorporate dozens of improvements requested by users. If users need to work better with the data in a report, Monarch V5 Standard Edition is the solution. If users also need to supplement their report data with information from a database, Monarch V5 Professional Edition is the answer."

Enhancements to Monarch V5 - Standard Edition

Improved Summary and Analysis Capabilities
Monarch V5 makes it easy to create new reports and charts with data extracted from existing reports. Now, users can apply filters in the Summary window, compute ratios and statistical values, perform "top-n" and "bottom-n" analysis, and reorder summaries based on the values in any column.
Improved Data Manipulation and Formatting Ability
Monarch V5 offers improved ability to crunch data with new functions and operators making it is easier for users to perform calculations and conversions on dates and times. Support for long field names and the ability to suppress zeros and show undefined values has also been added. By displaying the contents of a field in a scrollable and resizable window, Monarch V5 let's users easily see the entire contents of a memo field or long character field.
Friendlier User Interface
Monarch is friendlier than ever before thanks to dozens of user interface enhancements. A particularly useful feature is Monarch's new Field List dialog that brings together all field and template properties in one place making editing easier than ever. The Field List dialog lets users view, print and edit the properties of all fields in the Monarch table. Users simply click on a cell to make a change.
Faster Summary Performance
To create a summary report, Monarch builds an array containing all the unique values of each key field used in the summary. In addition, Monarch builds an array for each drill state that the summary might produce. Monarch V5's summary engine is much faster than V4's, so it can typically build all arrays in the same amount of time required by V4 to build only the initial array. Users will notice the difference immediately when drilling down into complex multi-dimensional summaries.
Improved Exporting and Printing Capabilities -
When exporting data to Excel in Monarch V5, column width and data format settings are retained. Support for printing selections has also been added.

Monarch V5 Professional Edition Features

Monarch V5 Professional Edition includes all the features of the Standard Edition, plus the ability import and join data from popular databases and ODBC sources.

Ability to Import Data from Databases and ODBC Data Sources
Monarch V5 Pro can import data from popular files such as MS Access, MS Excel, dBASE, Paradox and Delimited text. It can also import data from any ODBC sources such as MS-SQL Server, Oracle, Informix and DB2 Universal Database.
Ability to Join Data from an External Table or a Second Report
Monarch V5 Pro allows users to join data from an external database, including Report tables produced in Monarch. The primary table in Monarch acts as the target for joined data and the external table acts as the lookup table that provides the data.

About Monarch Report Mining Software

Monarch, which is used by more than 300,000 professionals worldwide, works by reading the data contained in any standard ASCII report printer output file and creating a softcopy of it on the user's PC. As a result, users can read report files downloaded from virtually any computing environment, including mainframe, midrange or client/server. They can search the report files for information, print selected pages, copy and paste information to other applications or create a new database. The extracted data can also be filtered, sorted, rearranged, and used to create new reports.

By allowing knowledge workers to generate custom views of reports and mine reports for information quickly and easily on their own, Monarch helps reduce the burden placed on IS managers for custom reports and report extracts.

Requirements and Compatibility

Monarch Version 5 Standard and Pro Editions are native 32-bit applications and require Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0+. Version 5 can read model files and portable report files created with earlier versions of Monarch.
