NCR and Excite@Home's MatchLogic Sign $8 Million Deal

NCR Corporation, a data warehousing leader, and MatchLogic, a leading datadriven online advertising company and wholly owned subsidiary of Excite@Home, announced that the two companies have signed an $8 million joint development and marketing agreement.

The agreement, which will take effect late in the second quarter, includes an investment by both companies in technology infrastructure, integration, and marketing-spanning e-business, customer relationship management (CRM), and customer-centric data warehouse applications. The deal also includes MatchLogic's purchase of a multi-terabyte NCR E-Business Teradata Active Warehouse and NCR's Relationship Optimizer eCRM software suite.

"The e-business market has matured to the point where the dot coms, along with their brick and mortar counterparts, must build and maintain customer relationships to keep their competitive edge," said Mark Hurd, senior vice president of NCR's Teradata Solutions Group. "NCR and MatchLogic are wellpositioned to help these companies capture and analyze their massive amounts of data with high-volume data warehousing and leading Web analytics."

NCR/MatchLogic Agreement

Under terms of the joint development and marketing agreement, NCR and MatchLogic will jointly integrate their eCRM offerings and optimize MatchLogic's ad serving and email click-stream analytics to work with NCR's Teradata database. By seamlessly integrating multi-channel (e-mail, telemarketing and direct mail) self-reported consumer data with consumer response data, MatchLogic's eCRM services provide marketers with the data needed to improve advertising return on investment, refine targeting, and pinpoint up-sell and cross-sell opportunities. Elements of eCRM include audience measurement, customized promotions, customer retention and data management.

NCR and MatchLogic will help customers gain deeper insight into consumer profiles and behavior based on self-reported data and will help further intelligence regarding the brands, products, and services that their customers market. The two companies will bring to market a MatchLogic-developed application that will enable marketers to more easily determine the results of email marketing and email-based customer acquisition and retention efforts. The solution will be based on current MatchLogic data practices of obtaining consumer choice regarding how information is used and of obtaining consumer consent before any such information is shared with third parties.

MatchLogic Buys Teradata Active Warehouse

MatchLogic has also agreed to purchase a multi-terabyte NCR E-Business Teradata Active Warehouse to drive its data-intensive eCRM and ad serving business. MatchLogic and NCR will jointly integrate NCR Relationship Optimizer eCRM software suite with MatchLogic's eCRM applications and services to enable customers to execute multi-channel promotions.

MatchLogic's data warehouse will increase the speed and sophistication of its click-stream analysis and manage the massive amounts of data coming from customer Web sites. Expected to quickly reach more than five terabytes in size, the privacy-enabled warehouse is built on NCR's Teradata database and includes NCR hardware, TeraMiner data mining software, TPump load utility, and services. The solution replaces MatchLogic's incumbent Oracle warehouses.
