Exodus Communications Inc, a leader in complex Internet hosting and managed services, announces it has opened a new Internet Data Center (IDC) in Tokyo to meet increasing worldwide customer demand for its complex Web hosting services. The new 157,000 square foot building -- which houses the Tokyo IDC, as well as corporate headquarters for Exodus Communications, K.K. -- is part of the continued expansion of Exodus' network of world-class IDC facilities in major metropolitan areas to support growing demand for complex Internet hosting worldwide.

With the opening of the new Tokyo IDC, Exodus offers U.S. companies serving the Asia Pacific region, as well as Asia Pacific-based companies, a state-of-the-art hosting facility tailored to meet the unique demands of sophisticated, multi-platform, mission-critical Internet operations. The Tokyo IDC is already home to three new customers including Vanguard, an e-commerce solutions provider, iGrocer, an online supermarket and delivery company, and J-surplus, a business-to-business auction site specializing in excess inventory and surplus assets.

"Japan is increasingly emerging as a base for high-growth Internet companies and Exodus' expanded Tokyo IDC offers state-of-the-art facilities, combined with leading managed and professional services to provide these customers with the highest levels of quality, security, reliability and scalability," said Bob Weingarten, general manager for Exodus Asia Pacific.

In the first quarter of 2000, Exodus added 545 customers, bringing its total to more than 2,800 customers worldwide. According to Media Metrix, 40 percent of the top Web sites on the Internet are hosted at Exodus IDCs. Customers rely on Exodus' state-of-the-art facilities and managed and professional services to offer end users an optimal Internet experience.
