LifeMetrix Unveils Web-based Integrated Care Mgt System

LifeMetrix unveiled its Web-based Integrated Care Management (ICM) System. The system is successfully implemented in a variety of settings ranging from medium-sized PPOs to large integrated delivery systems and large HMOs managing multiple diseases.

"The ICM system is dynamic, incredibly flexible and easy to use. It virtually eliminates the need for an in-house IT staff to support its operation," said Edmund Bujalski, chairman, president and CEO of LifeMetrix. "Guidelines or protocols for specific diseases or conditions are embedded in the system, and cases are automatically populated with appropriate guidelines or treatments depending on the criteria which drive the treatment process." He added, "LifeMetrix's selection by the Cerner Corporation as a strategic partner underscores the Company's technical sophistication and excellence, as well as our clinical expertise."

The ICM System grew out of the need to support LifeMetrix's disease management subsidiary, Quality Oncology Inc, which is the largest provider of cancer disease management programs in the US. LifeMetrix anticipated managing multiple diseases off a common platform.

Data collected as a result of performing care management with LifeMetrix's ICM System are downloaded to a robust data warehouse for ease of analysis and reporting. LifeMetrix's Data Warehouse logically combines all of a patient's clinical and outcomes data with the corresponding claims and other financial data. The merged data is contained in Internet-based structures called "data cubes." The data cubes provide detailed patient-specific treatment information across the entire continuum of care, which enables managed care organizations to track the efficacy of their disease management programs, ensure improvements in quality, and lower treatment costs.

Using technology and information to manage specific diseases was the subject of a workshop hosted by LifeMetrix on May 2, 2000 at the eHealthcareWorld conference at the Las Vegas Hilton. eHealthcareWorld gathered representatives from the industry's most progressive organizations dedicated to the convergence of healthcare and the Internet. LifeMetrix's chairman, president and CEO, Edmund Bujalski, commented, "We offer infrastructure for enabling physician and payor organizations to deploy our proven Web-based systems. Now they can successfully manage specific diseases and transform their organizations' clinical and financial data into a strategic asset."
