AI DETERMINES USER PREFERENCES

Metabyte Networks Inc, a Personal TV technology and service company, announced it is demonstrating Metabyte's MbTV on the Microsoft TV Platform for the first time at the National Cable Television Association Cable 2k conference.

MbTV, the totally automatic and totally private personal television service, will be demonstrated on the Microsoft TV Platform in Booth 5675. MbTV creates personal profiles by automatically learning what a viewer likes to watch.

The MbTV technology is unique in several ways. It learns viewers' television-watching preferences and creates personalized profiles (MbTV Thumbprints) that can be used to provide a variety of services. MbTV recommends, records, and displays programs based on viewers' preferences. MbTV does it all automatically. MbTV's architecture is based on filtering relevant content into a home from a mass broadcast. It is fully effective on a one way broadcast stream and does not require changes to the existing infrastructure. The artificial intelligence built into MbTV identifies who in a household is in front of TV without requiring them to log in. MbTV protects viewers' privacy because it does not require any profile to be transmitted from the viewers' home.

"We are extremely pleased that Metabyte has chosen to work with the Microsoft TV set-top box software first, to show off its unique MbTV Personal TV technology," said Alan Yates, director of marketing, Microsoft TV Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. "MbTV is a great example of a developer creating innovative television applications that will drive consumer acceptance of Enhanced TV and create opportunities for network operators."

Demonstrating MbTV on the Microsoft TV Platform at Cable 2k represents the expanding Metabyte and Microsoft relationship that started in June 1999. "We are excited about supporting the Microsoft TV Platform, one of today's leading enhanced television platforms," said Manu Mehta, president and CEO of Metabyte Networks. "To succeed, we believe personal TV must not require consumers to change their behaviors. Our relationship with Microsoft will contribute greatly to the success of personal TV by introducing consumers to the totally automatic and totally private experience of MbTV."
