i2's CaseRunner Revolutionizes Crime Investigation

i2, a world leader in visual investigative analysis software, has announced the availability of CaseRunner -- a groundbreaking solution that dramatically reduces crime solvers' case loads by helping them to organize facts, quickly identify hidden or complex links, and automate investigative reporting. i2 Inc, unveiled CaseRunner at the Frenzy Forensic Sciences & Crime Scene Technology conference and exposition in the Washington, DC, Convention Center at booth # 819.

CaseRunner is the first product that puts disparate and seemingly unrelated facts into an easy-to-read template, allowing investigators to quickly identify the crucial gaps that have to be filled. It also helps detectives keep track of multiple cases with maximum efficiency by replacing piles of paper with electronic files that can be accessed at any time. The reporting function liberates investigators from tedious, time consuming tasks, allowing them to concentrate on the case itself.

"i2 responded to the rapidly increasing caseloads with what we call an 'investigator-centered solution'," said David Gorham, CaseRunner product manager. "Our developers work alongside law enforcement and security veterans, who know which product will be doing the job from the day one, and which will just waste an investigator's precious time. CaseRunner is like a service pistol -- reliable, easy to use, but very effective."

CaseRunner's features are divided into three functional sections: Case Visualization, Task Management and Reports & Presentation.

Case Visualization provides investigative assistance by visualizing the facts involved in each of the cases. Its gives a clear "snapshot" of each investigation stage and guides an officer to where a given case element (like a person or automobile) has already been placed on chart to quickly find other related information. Also, it makes it possible to merge everything into a single chart to make complex cases easy to understand and explain.

Task Management helps track case-related tasks, serving like a personal organizer. Each step is shown as an icon on the chart and can be linked to the relevant subject to be seen in context. Also, Task Management helps an investigator prioritize the workload and meet deadlines. To help investigators manage multiple cases, this section makes it possible to cross-reference, merge and copy charts into one another without the need to re-enter information.

The Reports & Presentation section automates reporting and helps to present collected evidence in a powerful, easy-to-understand form. Once the target data is selected, it only takes a single click to launch and preview a report. The Link Charts option presents the information in an easy-to-understand form for other investigators, management, prosecution teams or court hearings. And, the information can be exported to other Windows applications.

Pricing and availability

The product runs on Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000 or NT Service Pack 4 or higher. It is available immediately and costs $780-890 per seat, depending on the number of seats purchased.
