Thunderstone Adds Search Engine Features to Texis 3.0

Search engine customers have gained a group of sophisticated new features in Thunderstone's Texis relational database. The enhancements reassert Thunderstone Software's position as the premier search engine provider for SQL relational applications.

The new capabilities are bundled with Texis release 3.0, available immediately. New features include:

  • Profiling. This is the ability to store large numbers of queries and match them against new data in real time. A typical use is for sending news alerts to users based on each one's unique search words. Profiling also provides an efficient mechanism for ad selection in search engines that sell keyword matches.
  • Geographic indexing. This allows text-searches to be limited to a geographic area that may cut across towns or postal codes. This kind of search otherwise requires a complicated merge of records within a longitude range and a latitude range.
  • Compound text indexes. These allow efficient processing of complicated queries. For example, a user may want to specify a phrase and a price range, with results ordered by date, as a classified-ad query. Such searches are otherwise expensive in computer resources and typically present scalability challenges.

These and other new features complement Texis's established capabilities as the highest-performance solution for dynamic publishing, interactive catalogs, classified advertising, and digital asset management. Texis is the only SQL database system designed for handling advanced text searches as part of largescale relational applications.

Thunderstone's Texis system powers the search features of some of the biggest and busiest database-driven sites on the Web. Texis customers include eBay, ZDNet, Amazon.com, About.com, Go2Net, TheStreet.com, and many other prominent Web sites.
