Macromedia Ships Generator 2 Enterprise Edition

Macromedia Inc, a leading provider of solutions for compelling and effective Web sites, announced it is shipping Macromedia Generator 2 Enterprise Edition, a high-performance, scalable solution that enables Global 2000 companies to quickly deliver high-impact, data-driven, visual Web content. Leading e- business solutions providers such as Vignette, SilverStream Software, and Intershop can easily extend their e-business infrastructure solutions to deliver real-time visual Web content due to the open architecture of Macromedia Generator 2 Enterprise Edition.

Online entertainment destination CheckOut.Com, for example, uses both Macromedia Generator and Vignette -- a platform for building online business applications that delivers a combination of content management, personalization, decision support, and enterprise integration services -- to deliver frequently changing, unique content to its customers. The combination of products enables CheckOut.Com to deliver a visually appealing site without requiring a legion of artists and integrators.

The SilverStream Application Server allows corporations to rapidly build and deploy standards-based Web applications on which they run their businesses. With the Macromedia Generator 2 Enterprise Edition integration, developers using the SilverStream Application Server can deliver highly visual sites that scale to millions of visitors and instantaneously reflect new information.

CharlotteStreet.com is a portal that uses Macromedia Generator, Macromedia Flash, the SilverStream Application Server, and an Oracle database to deliver the latest news and information. Using placeholders to separate design from content, CharlotteStreet.com uses Macromedia Generator templates to automatically update the portal as new stories are available.

"The combination of Macromedia Generator 2 Enterprise Edition and the SilverStream Application Server provides a powerful solution for our mutual customers who want visually-appealing, data-driven Web sites," said Noel Clarke, International Technical Account Manager, SilverStream Software. "It was very easy to integrate the two products as Generator simply makes a URL call to the application server which accesses its Oracle database to grab the required content. Macromedia Generator 2 Enterprise Edition then delivers the content fast and automatically."

Intershop is a leading provider of electronic commerce software solutions that enable businesses to sell goods and services over the Internet. Macromedia Generator 2 Enterprise Edition leverages Intershop's content database and e-commerce functionality to deliver dynamic content to site visitors. Because of the open architecture and real-time content delivery features in Generator, new products can instantly be reflected on a Web site once they are added to the Intershop database.

Macromedia Generator and Intershop provide a powerful technological combination for the G.I. Joe's online store. Generator transformed the Intershop database information into real-time, colorful, precision-designed Macromedia Flash movies. G.I. Joe's selected Macromedia Generator to deliver a constantly fresh site that doesn't require them to pay a third party for daily updates. Without any Web authoring knowledge, and wielding only a Web browser, employees at G.I. Joe's can update products, prices, and other content components without additional expense.

"Macromedia's dynamic content delivery capabilities offer our customers a simple method to automate the delivery of new or updated items to their customers," said Ed Callan, vice president, Marketing, Intershop Communications. "By aligning with Macromedia, we are effectively strengthening our customer's ability to differentiate themselves in the e-marketplace."
