Giganet Awarded Best of Show at Microsoft Tech Ed 2000

Giganet Inc announced SQL Server Magazine has awarded the company Best of Show honors for its VI-based server farm network technology at Microsoft Tech Ed 2000 show in Orlando, Florida. The award cited that by combining Giganet's VI-based high performing server farm networks with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition, enterprises are able to scale their database environments, providing more users with faster response times. Giganet's performance and scalability are enabling a new era of industry standard VI-based server farm network solutions to power today's Internet application environments.

Giganet has been deployed with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in several recent industry benchmarks, delivering up to 30 percent better system performance in database environments. At Giganet's Microsoft Tech Ed booth, the company's products demonstrated server-to-server communications for a network running the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database and showcasing a two-fold increase in performance over Ethernet. At the show, Giganet also unveiled a Test Drive program with Microsoft for SQL Server 2000, which includes an offer of a free trial of Giganet gear.

"We are pleased at this validation of our VI-based technology," said Gareth S. Taube, vice president Marketing, Giganet. "We are committed to continue working with industry leading vendors such as Microsoft to bring the benefits of VI's enhanced performance to the database market."

Giganet brings extensive experience in the development and implementation of VI-based server farm networks. Giganet's cLAN server farm networks are the first products to implement the VI Architecture standard in hardware, allowing servers to communicate at unprecedented speeds, with greatly reduced systems overhead, and ultra low message latency. VI Architecture is a standard-based API that enables high bandwidth message passing between interconnected servers.

By implementing VI, applications can communicate with each other directly, bypassing the operating system and protocol stacks. Depending on the applications accessing the database, a 30 percent or more reduction in system overhead can be achieved. The result is faster performing applications. Giganet's cLAN product family consists of host adapters, cluster switches and management software that can be used to create large, high performance, data delivery networks.
