TriStrata and EDS to Provide Increased Security

Sensitive information sent over the Internet or simply left in storage will be more secure and less vulnerable to tampering as the result of a teaming agreement announced by TriStrata Inc and EDS.

"As new data technologies emerge, the need to protect that data increases. As an underpinning to all that we do, EDS is committed to doing business with companies that are also involved in cutting-edge information assurance research," said Shakil Kidwai, vice president for information assurance services at EDS.

"The chances of unauthorized persons obtaining both the encoded data and the decoding information are substantially lessened with this new offering," he said. "We have created, in one infrastructure, the capability to add identification, authentication, authorization, confidentiality, nonrepudiation, information recovery and granular policy controls to any application our clients may require. This is a revolutionary approach to protecting an organization's most-sensitive mission-critical data."

For its government clients, EDS will offer, via its GSA Safeguards contract vehicle, a variety of centrally managed, cutting-edge secure application services for e-mail, end-to-end virtual private networks, laptop security and a variety of secure Web-based applications to support e-commerce and egovernment.

"Complementing EDS' integrated suite of offerings, the addition of TriStrata's audit capability gives our clients the ability to determine who attempted to access their sensitive information when -- and under what conditions -- in real time," said Doug Frederick, president of EDS Information Solutions. "This powerful tool gives EDS the ability to provide our clients with tremendous confidence and more detailed operational information than ever before."

"Managing information securely is a fundamental concern of all government agencies and commercial businesses today," said Dr. John Atalla, chief executive officer of TriStrata. "We're delighted EDS has chosen us to help address the rapidly growing Internet market for secured application services."

"The teaming of EDS with TriStrata fills a void in the application service provider market," said Dr. Dorothy Denning, a leading security expert and professor of computer science at Georgetown University. "Most third party application hosting services do not pay enough attention to security, or attempt to provide it as an afterthought. This will provide e-business clients with managed applications that are secured at the outset."
