UUNET Expands With Two Texas Internet Data Centers

UUNET, a WorldCom Company and a recognized leader in Web hosting, announced the opening of a new Internet data center in Dallas, Texas and plans to open a second site in Houston this fall. Located in the northwestern Dallas suburb of Richardson, the new 125,000 square foot data center will offer businesses enhanced colocation hosting services and other value-added services that deliver the performance and security necessary to run business-critical applications over the World Wide Web.

As part of its UUhost Data Center build out initially announced last year, UUNET`s Dallas data center will help to meet the growing demand for colocation services in the Southwest while extending UUNET`s US data center footprint. UUNET is among the first hosting providers to extend colocation to this region and to announce plans to have multiple centers here.

"As a growing technology region, our new Dallas data center will help fulfill demands for hosting in the Southwest by providing customers with superior colocation services," said Mark Spagnolo, president and CEO of UUNET. "Because UUNET`s data centers are directly integrated into our award-winning global IP network, businesses can turn to UUNET to provide 24 x 7 infrastructure-based services to enable their Web services and applications."

"Colocation hosting with UUNET enables us to focus on our core IT needs and leave the infrastructure services to a leader," said Peter Gladkin, CEO, APACHE Medical Systems, a leading provider of clinical decision support systems and services. "UUNET gives us the ultimate in high-performance technology and easy, convenient access to the data center, where our servers are securely housed. But, what we find especially reassuring is that UUNET`s colocation services are backed by outstanding service level guarantees and network monitoring that were far superior to other vendors we evaluated." Like other UUhost facilities, the Dallas data center is directly integrated into UUNET`s IP network, offering hosting customers high bandwidth availability for maximum performance and quick and easy scalability. In March, UUNET also announced plans to deploy OC-192 with Multi-Protocol Label Switching in its U.S. network, quadrupling the company`s current network speed to 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps).

The Dallas data center opening follows the launch of UUNET's two New York City area data centers, which opened May 1. Throughout 2000, UUNET plans to open Internet data centers in the U.S. in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Denver, Seattle, Houston, Miami and a second site in Washington, D.C. The company also operates UUhost data centers in Atlanta, Georgia; San Jose, California; Washington, D.C.; Paris, France; London, England; Manchester, England; Brussels, Belgium; Dortmund, Germany; Amsterdam; Stockholm, Sweden; and Sydney, Australia. International expansion plans includes UUhost centers in Tokyo, Japan; Hong Kong; Singapore; Madrid, Spain; Milan, Italy; Copenhagen, Denmark; and second sites in Paris, France; and Amsterdam, Netherlands. By year`s end, the company plans to have 30 Internet data centers online worldwide.
