Chase Manhattan Bank Using Oracle DW and BI Software

Oracle Corp, one of the largest providers of software for e-business, announced an agreement with The Chase Manhattan Bank naming Oracle a strategic technology provider to the nation's second largest bank. The agreement, which encompasses customer profitability initiatives underway at Chase, will report on Chase's overall profitability by providing a single source of up-to-date information, accessible enterprise-wide using Oracle's business intelligence applications.

Chase's wholesale clients are typically multi-faceted, multi-national entities. Because of this complexity, Chase requires robust, scalable database and analysis tools for determining its full relationships with wholesale clients.

"Using Oracle database, data warehouse and business intelligence technologies, it's easier for us to determine which of our programs and offerings are most profitable. Through our Oracle data warehouse, we have access to a new level of in-depth, detailed product and account-level profitability information," said Charles DeFelice, vice president of Chase Business Services. "Oracle's database technologies and applications give us the scale and sophisticated analysis tools we need to pinpoint specific areas of profitability. By clearly reflecting the entirety of the customer relationship, we expect to dramatically improve our client relationships."

Oracle's data warehousing software including Oracle Discoverer and Oracle8i will power a comprehensive customer profitability analysis solution that will be delivered to Chase's more than 4,500 wholesale client relationship managers worldwide.

"Chase is setting the pace with a comprehensive, global customer profitability solution that will lead to timelier, more effective decisions and marketing efforts," said Anthony Fernicola, Oracle Group vice president and General Manager of Global Financial Services. "By relying on Oracle's technology, Chase will be able to accelerate its efforts."

The primary reason Chase selected Oracle as a strategic technology supplier is Oracle8i's ability to scale to handle huge volumes of information. By August, the information in Chase's customer profitability database is expected to reach half a terabyte in size. By 2001, the database is expected to grow to between two and four terabytes. Other factors driving Chase's decision include the integration of Oracle's leading data warehouse technologies with its business intelligence applications and tools.

The Oracle solution replaces mainframe-based applications, which were used to obtain an enterprise-wide view of customer profitability. The Oracle solution is expected to virtually eliminate data extracts and other time-consuming steps by providing a single source of easily accessible, up-to-date information delivered on a global scale.
