Unisys Certified for Windows Datacenter Program

Unisys announced that it has been certified by Microsoft to deliver the Microsoft Windows Datacenter Program, offering customers unprecedented levels of enterprise-class scalability, reliability and performance combined with the ease of use and lower cost of ownership associated with the Microsoft computing environment. As a certified OEM supplier, Unisys will offer Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server on the Unisys e-ction Enterprise Server ES7000, achieving a key milestone in delivering the advanced attributes of the operating system to the marketplace.

With the Unisys certification, customers now can take advantage of the full range of performance enhancements built into the Windows 2000 Datacenter Server operating system. The Unisys ES7000 server, based on the one-of-a-kind Cellular MultiProcessing server architecture, was designed expressly to support advanced enterprise capabilities such as those delivered by Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

"Our certification by Microsoft to deliver the Windows Datacenter Program is the culmination of years of systems design work that resulted in the creation of the ES7000, an enterprise-class system that leverages the strengths of the Windows environment," said Irv Epstein, vice president, Windows 2000 Programs, Unisys Corporation. "Certification also gives customers the opportunity to call on the global Unisys support and services infrastructure to achieve uninterrupted availability of the critical solutions on which their businesses depend."

Unisys has defined a Datacenter Framework that outlines the extensive range of basic and value add services, support, and training programs for the Unisys ES7000 and Microsoft Datacenter Server operating environment. These services range from hardware and software warranty and support, architectural services, high-availability services, project management and implementation, specialized solution services, customization, infrastructure maintenance and training.

"The Windows Datacenter Program provides for a high level of skill and technology expertise to assist customers in attaining the highest levels of reliability and scalability," said Jim Ewel, vice president, IT Infrastructure and Hosting, Microsoft Corp. "Because of its significant enterprise experience, Unisys is well positioned to help customers deploying Windows Datacenter Server environments be as successful as its traditional mainframe customer base."
