BAXTER INT'L IMPLEMENTS FIRST ShowCase EIP APPLICATIONShowCase Corporation - a leading provider of Enterprise Intelligence solutions - said that Baxter International Inc is the first customer to deploy its newly launched ShowCase Enterprise Information Portal solution. In a previous release, ShowCase had announced this $450,000 customer win, which was included in license fee revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2000. The new product tightly integrates ShowCase's STRATEGY data warehousing and business intelligence suite with IntraNet Solutions Inc's award-winning Web Content Management system to deliver a true EIP to clients operating joint AS/400 and Windows NT environments. Under the terms of the contract, Baxter - a global leader in delivering critical therapies for people with life-threatening conditions - will implement the comprehensive ShowCase EIP solution in approximately 40 locations throughout 18 European countries. Baxter sought the new solution as an integral part of a "total re-engineering" of its European Finance organization, which previously had been operating from a variety of disparate financial systems that limited centralized data access and consistent information sharing between countries. Under the company's Finance Millenium Initiative, Baxter intends to streamline and standardize its financial processes to help business and country finance users solve strategic business needs through access to timely, personalized information via the Web. With more than 50 percent of Baxter's sales coming from outside the United States, Baxter products are sold in more than 112 countries and its operations form a network that spans the globe. It was therefore critical that a true Enterprise Intelligence system provide the depth, flexibility and scalability to accommodate Europe, which is among Baxter's fastest-growing non-U.S. markets. The initial application, which will integrate the ShowCase EIP solution with J.D. Edwards' OneWorld financial system, will focus on Financial Reporting and Analysis. Both J.D. Edwards' OneWorld and ShowCase's STRATEGY will operate on an IBM AS/400, while the Web Content Management solution will run on an NT server. Tom Rushe, Reporting Cycle Manager, who is spearheading the EIP process within Baxter's Finance Millenium initiative from the Shared Services Center in Dublin where he is based, fully anticipates that the comprehensive solution will leverage the power of the Web so that employees can easily access their own, customized reports from a centralized data warehouse - when and how they need them. "Previously we couldn't readily see amalgamated information, comparisons from one country to another, or spending totalities throughout Europe. It was extremely difficult and manually intense," he recalls. "We wanted to use the Intranet as much as possible for reporting, and to have employees pull their own reports rather than have reports pushed to them from a variety of sources. Flexibility was also key. We needed a data warehouse solution that would enable users to readily create, update and customize P&Ls, balance sheets and cost center reports based on the changing needs of individual countries and regional management. ShowCase provided that solution." Baxter selected ShowCase EIP over competitive products because the ShowCase EIP application represented a complete, centralized content management solution versus a distributed approach with limited content management capabilities. "Content management evolved as our number one priority, and the ShowCase EIP solution clearly had the strongest advantage. We were particularly impressed with the robust content management features of the ShowCase solution as a front-end," Rushe continues. "It's easy to deploy, requires minimal training and puts the power directly into the hands of decision-makers - providing central access to standardized data without tying up individual PCs." The Baxter European organization also selected ShowCase because ShowCase Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions are already widely used by Baxter in a number of locations across the United States, Latin America and in Asia Pacific. "Our other geographic sites have had positive experiences with the software and we wanted to be in tune with the company's overall direction," Rushe explains. Instead of implementing a five-week, pre-sales pilot project, Baxter Europe immediately chose ShowCase without any pilot project or workshop. Comprising the end-to-end, enterprise-wide AS/400 EIP solution, Baxter purchased Web Content Management, Essbase/400, Warehouse Manager, Warehouse Builder, Query/Report Writer, J.D. Edwards Financial Accelerators and Enterprise Reporting. With a comprehensive new EIP application in place, Baxter plans to tackle its Finance Millenium initiative in multiple phases, first by integrating with J.D. Edwards' OneWorld, then rolling out the solution to four sites - in Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Ireland - by the fourth quarter of 2000. The remaining 14 countries are scheduled to go live by 2002. "We are extremely pleased that Baxter Europe selected the ShowCase EIP solution to meet not just their technical, but their overall business criteria," says Theresa O'Neil, vice president of Marketing. "Having had extensive experience with Baxter on a worldwide scale, we're confident that we can deliver the most complete solution to address the needs of Baxter today and well into tomorrow."
