BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE EXPECTS HUGE GROWTH FOR BI TOOL USEPrior to the Data Warehousing 2000 conference and exhibition, Business Intelligence Ltd (BI) has released exclusive research that reveals corporate IT managers expect huge growth in the usage of BI tools. Whereas today almost 40 per cent of surveyed organizations say they have 1O or less regular users of analytical tools, this figure is forecast to change dramatically. By 2003, 24 per cent of respondents believed that their organizations would have over 2000 such users. According to the research, conducted for Data Warehousing 2000, far from declining, data warehousing is enjoying renewed importance. Increasingly, IT managers regard data warehousing as one of a handful of key technologies for the dotcom world of the knowledge economy. Data warehousing tools can be found at the heart of principal technology-based business initiatives from CRM to the B2B Supply Chain. Ian Meiklejohn, director of research and infrastructure development at Business Intelligence states; "Data Warehousing is no longer about one-off projects, however ambitious. Large IT-intensive organizations are increasingly building upon early data warehousing initiatives to create the software infrastructure for doing business in the Web economy. At the same time, new competitive and technical environments have thrown up fresh challenges, from near real-time operation to mobile and wireless access. Perhaps most critically, these will have to be mastered at the same time as coping with very large predicted growth in the number of data warehouse users. If these predictions prove only half true, then they will transform the role of data warehousing in most organizations - and the scale of the problems of their management." Data Warehousing 2000 will take place on 8th and 9th November at Olympia 2 in London.
