Arlene S. Garcia Named VP Public Sector Sales at SPSSTo further its current strategy of delivering analytical solutions through vertical business units, SPSS Inc has named Arlene S. Garcia vice president of North American public sector sales. Garcia and her team are responsible for driving sales of SPSS analytical products and solutions throughout the federal, state and local government and higher education markets in North America. Garcia assumed this role on Sept. 1. This key appointment is part of an ongoing trend at SPSS to hire senior-level individuals to support the growth of its analytical solutions business. "The Internet age is causing changes and new challenges in the public sector. The government market has increased its emphasis on service, particularly service delivered via the Web. Before joining SPSS, Garcia was the national director of solution sales at Oracle. During her 11-year tenure, she was responsible for driving sales of ERP and CRM products in the federal market nationwide. Garcia is a certified public accountant with a degree from Maryland University, an MBA from American University and a master's degree in organizational management from the University of Deusto, Spain. "Over the last nine months, SPSS has focused on hiring experienced people, like Arlene, to support the rapid growth of our analytical solutions business, and we plan to continue this trend," said Phelan.
