Alchemy Migration Services Helps Glaxo WellcomeAlchemy Migration Services is working with Glaxo Wellcome plc's worldwide manufacturing and supply organization, to integrate and deliver high quality information for its Global Data Warehouse project. Using Alchemy's analysis-led methodology and processes, data from Glaxo Wellcome's three corporate systems - SAP, Manugistics and the Group's bespoke financial package - are being integrated with information from 70 local markets and 52 sites. The data warehouse is already delivering vital information that is helping to shape business strategy, improve efficiency and maintain continuity of supply to global markets. Alchemy has been instrumental from the start of the project in helping to set up the data warehouse team, sourcing the data and mapping it to the business strategy, then performing the analysis to build executive interfaces and data architectures. The initial data collection and provision of data for the business strategy involved a lot of time and effort clarifying and refining data, addressing areas such as exception reporting, trends and language barriers. More recently, Acta Rapid Datamarts have been implemented to assist in collecting data from the SAP R/3 systems in order to access vital ERP information, more quickly and at lower cost. "Alchemy has proved key in ensuring that the project has delivered on-time, in- budget and has provided a high level of information quality to its business users," said Tony Eccleston, Programme Manager Global Data Warehouse, WM&S, Glaxo Wellcome. "During initial projects, the effort to understand and integrate data was very resource intensive. But today we are able to thoroughly analyze data and quickly establish quality issues with the business stakeholders. Making information quality a business driver and not simply an IT problem has been a critical factor in achieving success." "Projects on this scale have the potential to over-run on time and budget and in the end, fail to deliver the business objectives," says Richard John, managing director of Alchemy Migration Services. "But from the very start, the Global Data Warehouse project was business driven with a focus on information quality and getting the right people involved in the implementation. Our close partnership with the Glaxo Wellcome team combined with our unique data analysis-led methodologies and procedures have played a key role in the successful delivery of the project." Alchemy Migration Services is a private company founded in 1999 and headquartered in London with blue-chip clients including Glaxo Wellcome, Norwich Union, the Post Office, London Electricity, Xerox, ABN Amro and BT Cellnet. The company's focus is to help clients deliver high quality data to new applications more quickly and at lower cost than traditional means. For more information visit, www.askalchemy.com.
