University of California Recieves $1M SAS GrantSAS Institute, a market leader in e-intelligence and data warehousing, announced a three-year, $1 million software grant to the University of California System. SAS solutions will be available throughout the system, in the Office of the president and across the university's 10 campuses in Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and Merced, which is expected to open in 2004. The grant reduces usage costs for faculty, staff and students of the one of the largest and most acclaimed university systems in the United States. It provides access to SAS software and services that are designed to streamline administrative tasks and help faculty, staff members and students conduct research. Jim Dolgonas, the university's assistant vice president for information systems and computing, noted that "such partnerships help the university fulfill its mission of providing instruction to its students, research to the field, and public service to the community." "We wanted to offer the University of California a partnership where they would receive tangible results," said Jeff Babcock, vice president of public sector sales and marketing for SAS North America. "The grant will not only provide software to help each university in its operational efficiencies but will also assist faculty members and other researchers in their work. With the access to SAS software and solutions, students are given the opportunity to hone the technology skills needed to compete and flourish in today's high-tech work force," added Babcock. "For SAS, the most important contribution is that we're giving students and educators the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in course work and beyond."
