Metagenix Adds ASP Capability

Metagenix Inc has announced that the data profiling and analysis capabilities of MetaRecon, its flagship product, are now available through an Application Service Provider model. MetaRecon is the world's first Enterprise Data Management Integrated Development Environment and is targeted at the data migration portion of the E-Commerce, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence and Data Conversion markets.

"Profiling and Analysis is just a small part of the total solution," says Greg Leman, Metagenix CEO, "but it's an area that has very high value to our customers. The question is whether or not the customer needs to go through the process of acquiring equipment, installing the software at their site, training their people, and devoting labor for a limited project." The MetaRecon software integrates data profiling and analysis, as well as a sophisticated meta data repository, generation of data models, data definition language (DDL) descriptions, XML, Extraction, Transformation, and Load (ETL) jobs, and OLAP specifications.

The ASP version of MetaRecon provides two additional services to Metagenix customers. First, for a minimal charge ($495), customers can upload their data to a Metagenix hosted server and receive a Complexity Analysis Report. This report provides an estimate of the complexity of the data migration project based upon an analysis of the data, and proposes a project budget. The second service is a Full Service Data Profiling and Analysis Project. After uploading their data, the customer receives a series of reports explaining the intricacies of their data and the problems likely to be encountered in a data migration project. The reports include:

• Candidate Data Types -- an analysis of the data types present in the source data, with counts and percentages.
• Column Definitions -- an analysis of the column definitions reverse engineered from the data.
• Column Values -- an analysis of the least and most frequent values found within columns.
• Functional Dependencies -- an analysis of the functional dependencies present in the data.
• Primary Key Candidates -- an analysis of the candidates for primary keys present in the data.
• Common Domains -- an analysis of the common domains across the tables in the data.

The Full Service Project is priced according to the estimate generated in the Complexity Analysis Report. "For most customers, the price range will be from $2,500 to $10,000, depending upon the size of the data and the complexity. Considering that some companies charge $20,000 to perform a proof of concept of their product, the ASP model makes a lot of sense for this market. Why waste time with a proof of concept when you can get your final results in less time for less cost?" says Lance Carroll, vice president of Strategic Relations at Metagenix.
