SPSS RELEASES NEW VERSION OF CLEMENTINE

E-businesses are bombarded daily with millions of pieces of information about visitors to their Web sites. Even with traditional data mining tools, deciphering this flood of data--and ultimately turning it into more profitable customer relationships--is a daunting task. Clementine 6.0, the latest version of the award-winning data mining workbench from SPSS Inc makes the task much easier with techniques and data mining application templates designed specifically for Web mining. Clementine 6.0 is now shipping.

"Everyone knows that vital information which can improve profitability is buried in Web logs and online registrations," said Peter Caron, SPSS senior marketing manager. "What everyone doesn't know is how to reveal this information and turn it into cross-selling opportunities, increased customer retention and more efficient use of Web resources. The Web mining user guide, application templates and data samples found in Clementine 6.0 provide a detailed road map which businesses can follow to achieve these results.

"Standard Web reporting tools can provide a snapshot of online customers, but they only look in one direction--backward," Caron continued. "Clementine's forward-looking models go way beyond static reports to discover what customers want and predict what they will do. The need for these predictive capabilities is evident in the dramatic increase in Clementine sales, which grew by 122 percent during the first nine months of 2000 compared to the same period in 1999."

Clementine takes a visual, interactive approach to data mining. Users build a map of their data mining project--called a "stream"--by selecting icons that represent steps in the process. Along the way, users are invited to include their business knowledge for better results. To help ensure a successful and productive data mining project, Clementine includes data mining application templates--collections of streams, sample data and documentation commonly used in a specific applications.

Clementine 6.0 is the first version to offer a Web mining application template. Whether or not they have any previous experience mining Web data, organizations can use this template to get a jump-start on their Web mining project. Clementine now also includes a data mapping tool to aid users in applying the templates to their own data. In addition to the Web mining application template, Clementine also has a template for use with telecommunications data mining projects.

The latest version of Clementine also offers:

  • Powerful new algorithms - The addition of new linear regression, logistic regression, multinomial logistic regression, C&RT, cluster and factor analysis algorithms means Clementine users are sure to find the right data mining technique for their application.
  • Improved scalability - Clementine's operation on local machines has been improved to enhance scalability and make more efficient use of computing resources
  • Improved deployment - Clementine Solution Publisher -- Clementine's newly architected deployment tool -- eases delivery of streams for decision making. Regression, multinomial logistic regression and C&RT models now can be exported as XML files for more flexible delivery options.
  • SAS Import and Export Nodes - Clementine now allows importing from and exporting to SAS software for Windows versions 6, 7 and 8.
  • Enhanced user interface - Clementine's stream panes offer user-activated scroll bars and automatic scrolling when nodes/connections are dragged out of the window.
