Advanced Visual Systems Introduces AVS/Express 5.1

Advanced Visual Systems has released version 5.1 of its popular AVS/Express data visualization platform. Utilized by thousands of worldwide users to create powerful 2D and 3D visualizations of scientific, engineering and business data, AVS/Express has been enhanced with a range of new features that facilitate rapid application development and deployment, and takes full advantage of recent advances in display and interactive technologies. Complete information on AVS/Express is available at www.avs.com.

Major enhancements to the Developer, Visualization and Multi-pipe editions of AVS/Express 5.1 include direct parallel rendering on SGI Onyx2 workstations with multiple graphics pipes and/or multiple display projectors; stereographic display support for PC, Solaris and HP platforms; OpenGL rendering on Linux-based systems; support for wand and other interactive and tracking devices; enhanced memory management for high-performance visualization; DBkit support for Oracle 8i; high-quality output using Vector Postscript; full 64-bit addressing for large datasets; new developer tools that facilitate rendering, configuring, colormap editing and additional demonstrations.

These enhancements follow a host of other AVS/Express features introduced throughout 2000, including high-quality stereo display capabilities; a new high-performance cache system; support for compound multi-pipe display modes; simplified multi-projector configuration; integration with Microsoft Developer Studio; ActiveX support; developer and runtime releases for Linux and Redhat 6.1; simplified licensing; among 50 additional features and enhancements.

According to Russ Barbour, CEO of MuSE Technologies, parent company to AVS, "Version 5.1 of AVS/Express reflects a continuation of our decade-old tradition of working closely with customers in the evolution of our software technology. To that end, an embrace of multi-pipe, stereographic and interactive device technologies are reflected in recent versions, as are many new features that speed and enrich the application development process."

Melanie Ziegler, vice president of Product Development at MuSE added, "Recent enhancements to our AVS/Express line are a prelude to a major new release planned for late 2001. Our objective is to facilitate the growing demand for cross-platform advanced data visualization by both developer and user populations through a strategic expansion of the AVS/Express platform. As always, customer input and a broad recognition of new trends in data management, application development, data handling and interactive techniques will feature prominently in our long-range AVS/Express strategy."

AVS/Express is used by software developers to create dynamic visualization applications that can be broadly deployed on any combination of Compaq, Digital, HP, IBM, Microsoft, Linux, SGI, and Sun platforms, providing end users with powerful visual insight to all types of business, engineering and scientific data. AVS/Express software and custom solutions provided by the professional services group of Advanced Visual Systems have been widely deployed in the medical imaging, oil & gas, geographic information systems, defense, aerospace, telecommunications, financial, data mining and educational/research industries.
