Hannaford Bros. Chooses IBM for Decision SupportIBM announced that leading grocery retailer Hannaford Bros. Co is using IBM technology for a faster, more scalable approach to track its product movement. Hannaford upgraded its data warehouse architecture using a mix of IBM technologies, including an IBM RS/6000 SP 332 SMP running IBM's DB2 Universal Database. "Implementing the data warehouse on DB2 increased performance for loads, summarization, and reporting significantly, " said Glenn Dunne, Manager of Data Resources at Hannaford Bros. "The key was in the upfront design and planning. IBM Global Services provided top-notch DB2 experts to ease the conversion. Overall, we are pleased with the investment." Hannaford and IBM consultants conducted an internal benchmark to determine whether an IBM solution could significantly improve response times for employees accessing the data warehouse. Hannaford increased its system performance upwards of 50 percent and delivered over 100 percent in query response time to data warehouse users and also provided a more stable operating environment.
