Spotfire Integrates Proteome Biological Knowledge DBSpotfire Inc, a leading provider of decision analytics software solutions, and Proteome Inc, a leading provider of biological knowledge databases to pharmaceutical and biotechnology researchers, announced that the companies have successfully completed an integration of their services. Effective immediately, this collaboration enables mutual customers of Spotfire and Proteome to access and analyze data from specific volumes of Proteome's BioKnowledge Library using Spotfire.net, Spotfire's Web-based decision analytics software solution. Now, within a Spotfire.net workspace, researchers and scientists can seamlessly enrich the analysis of their own data and experiment results with information contained in Proteome's knowledge databases. Proteome's databases are important sources of comprehensive knowledge of protein properties and functions for academic and commercial researchers in genomics and proteomics. Through this integration effort, the companies provide users with easy, Web-based access to the curated gene and protein information contained within Proteome's Yeast Proteome Database (YPD). Utilizing a Spotfire.net workspace, customers can combine and visually explore Proteome's functional annotations and protein properties along with other internal and external data, such as DNA microarray and functional genomics datasets. "By providing customers with easy access to valuable information sources such as Proteome's YPD, we are helping scientists fully explore and understand all aspects of their experiment results, significantly shortening the discovery process," said Dr. Christopher Ahlberg, Spotfire founder and CEO. "This powerful combination enables our life sciences customers to perform unparalleled gene expression analysis with advanced and comprehensive microarray annotation," said James Garrels, Ph.D., president and CEO of Proteome Inc. "We are pleased with how rapidly we were able to complete this integration with Spotfire." Widely used in the yeast research community, YPD is part of Proteome's BioKnowledge Library, a collection of searchable Proteome Databases that capture the existing knowledge for the characterized genes and proteins of specific organisms. The BioKnowledge Library contains expert-generated, standardized information on over 56,000 proteins, with annotations and references. The most recent additions to the BioKnowledge Library are the Human Proteome Survey Database (Human PSD), which contains fundamental properties for human, mouse and rat proteins, and GPCR-PD, which consolidates a wide variety of information on this protein family. Proteome's model and microorganism databases also include WormPD (Caenorhabditis elegans), PombePD (Schizosaccaromyces pombe) and CalPD (Candida albicans).
