Alvion Tech Selects Sybase Adaptive Server IQ MultiplexSybase Inc announced that Alvion Technologies, an application service provider (ASP) that specializes in delivering and hosting Web-based marketing solutions, has successfully implemented Sybase Adaptive Server IQ Multiplex to provide fast, reliable and scalable data warehousing for its Web-based services. Alvion Technologies initially partnered with AccuData America, the largest independent distributor of marketing data in the U.S., to create a Web-based service that would provide clients instant access to their extensive collection of marketing data online. In order to be successful, Alvion needed high-performance data warehousing technologies that would enable it to operate in a mission-critical, high volume, Web environment. Alvion also faced the challenge of meeting these requirements without spending a fortune, or draining resources from the IT group with technology that would demand constant upkeep and fine-tuning. Hosting this data warehouse, with its very large files and high performance demands, was a project that was considered by many to be impossible. Alvion's engineers were confident that they could develop an easy-to-use Web application to handle the sophisticated queries of complex list segmentation and instantaneous counts. However, the most critical obstacle they faced was how quickly they could get the queries to run, because Web-based, ad hoc access to very large databases requires exceptionally fast query speeds. "We tried numerous approaches, and every database option we tried simply failed. The only exception was Sybase Adaptive Server IQ," said Pam Lang of Alvion Technologies. "It had the exact technology we needed built right into it, without the limitations we found with other vendors. After our previous disappointments, we were skeptical, but after a three day on-site pilot study we were up and running at Web speed." After Sybase Adaptive Server IQ Multiplex was implemented, Alvion conducted random performance tests using a set of previously submitted queries. Alvion has noted one remarkable comparison -- a query that had previously taken 53 minutes was returned in only 2.8 seconds. Alvion was also impressed with additional results they did not anticipate: the data load times were greatly reduced and their storage needs shrunk considerably. With the help of Sybase, after less than one year of operation, Alvion Technologies successfully supports sales and marketing departments in more than 3,000 organizations, and has successfully delivered solutions for some of the largest marketing databases in the world. AccuLeads.com, AccuData America's online list count and order service, currently handles over one thousand ad hoc list requests each day and still maintains an average response time of approximately 20 seconds. "We are pleased to offer our customers a comprehensive solution that can produce remarkable results quickly and effectively," said Eric Miles, executive vice president and general manager, Sybase Business Intelligence Division. "Our Adaptive Server IQ Multiplex has been designed from the ground up for data analysis. We feel that it is the ideal analytical engine for BI systems, including the latest generation of Web-enabled data warehousing, and our customers can attest to that."
