Battelle Memorial Licenses Inxight's Indexing EngineInxight Software Inc, a leading provider of information access and content analysis software solutions, announced it has licensed Inxight Thing Finder SDK to Battelle Memorial Institute. Thing Finder is a powerful content indexing software engine that identifies and extracts entities such as persons, locations, numbers and other "things" within unstructured text. Thing Finder is being integrated into Battelle's Starlight, a robust visualization software application that is used to look for trends in volumes of information -- both digital and data -- and then displays the information into user-friendly, easy-to-interpret pictures. By integrating Thing Finder into Starlight, customers can identify pre-defined entities and translate them into identifiers. Starlight applies XML tags to the identifiers, creates clusters from the tags, and then makes associations from the clusters. Thing Finder allows Starlight users to uncover precise information that can be grouped into clusters of identified patterns. "We originally developed Starlight to aid researchers in visually spotting patterns and anomalies in data," said John Pinto, Starlight's program manager. "By integrating Inxight's Thing Finder, we have added a powerful and precise way to identify exact entities. One example of the success we've had is a recent study of a food poisoning outbreak in a particular U.S. city. By using the Starlight/Thing Finder solution, we were able to search free text reports and unstructured data to extract times and locations, and place them into clusters. This was instrumental in helping us pin-point the origin of the outbreak." "Inxight is very proud to be affiliated with one of the top not-for-profit research firms in the U.S.," said Ian Hersey, Inxight's vice president of linguistic products. "As Battelle continues to develop applications, we are certain our products will enhance search in a way that will greatly benefit those looking for specific data. We are delighted to have been selected by Battelle to help solve the challenge of accurate data extraction." About Thing FinderThing Finder SDK is a software developer's kit that provides application developers, software integrators and information providers with a powerful new way to index specific information in unstructured content to support critical areas such as business intelligence or electronic publishing. Thing Finder tags and highlights the identified entities in context and then classifies them in 25 pre-defined categories such as people, names and places. Additional categories can be easily added for customization. Thing Finder is supported in English, French and German. Additional languages will be supported and announced in the upcoming months. A server version of Thing Finder is available for rapid deployment. Information about Thing Finder is available at www.inxight.com.
