SPSS Ships New Version of SmartViewer Web Server

The hundreds of thousands of organizations worldwide that rely on SPSS to help them manage and measure their business can now distribute analytical reports more easily and securely with the release of SmartViewer Web Server 2.2 from SPSS Inc. SmartViewer Web Server is SPSS' distribution and content management tool for sharing interactive reports from SPSS, the company's flagship software. Version 2.2 includes new features which make navigation easier and content more secure. The software is currently shipping.

SmartViewer Web Server now offers:

  • Keyword searching - Users can now quickly and easily locate documents by searching for keywords and other metadata associated with each report.
  • Enhanced security - Encryption technology has been added to ensure that sensitive information is transmitted in the most secure manner possible.
  • Solaris and Oracle compatibility - SmartViewer Web Server is now available for the Solaris operating system and is fully compatible with Oracle databases. This combination provides a complete distribution solution for the Unix platform.

"SmartViewer Web Server brings the speed and ease of use of the Internet to the information sharing process," said George Makovic, SPSS marketing manager. "The vital information needed to attract new customers, retain existing customers, boost sales and increase profits is now only a quick text search away. And while navigating SVWS is now even easier, IT departments can be assured that proprietary and confidential data is fully protected--even when sharing documents outside of their organizations."

Using SmartViewer Web Server, the same people who create analytical reports in SPSS publish them to a centralized repository. Decision makers can then access these reports via an intranet or the Internet, using a Web browser to view and explore the documents. SmartViewer Web Server taps into the power of SPSS to help answer key business problems, such as the reasons for high customer turnover or lagging sales.

With SmartViewer Web Server, decision makers can go beyond the limits of traditional static reports by rearranging rows, columns and layers with SPSS' award-winning pivoting technology. This enables users to slice and dice reports to reveal the information that matters most to them.

SmartViewer Web Server also makes information more meaningful and valuable by offering various customization options. SmartViewer Web Server's design allows it to be integrated seamlessly into the look and feel of an organization's Web site. The user interface can be tailored by changing fonts and colors or by adding hyperlinks to other pages. Pre-defined templates give documents different looks for different situations and Web teams can even create their own made-to-order templates.
