Informix Software Releases XPS 8.31.UD1

Informix Software, the database company, an independent operating company of Informix Corporation, released Informix Extended Parallel Server (XPS) 8.31.UD1, an incremental update to its high-end data warehousing server. XPS is known for its near linear scalability and support of fast, comprehensive data management in some of the world's largest and most heavily utilized business intelligence environments.

Notable functional enhancements included with XPS 8.31.UD1 are:

  • TPC-H benchmark release: With this release of XPS, Informix Software makes generally available the version of the server that was used to establish leading 1000GB and 300GB TPC-H benchmarks with SUN and Compaq hardware, respectively.
  • Extended Backup and Restore: XPS 8.31.UD1 allows for the usage of a mirrored copy to backup the database quickly with virtually no downtime. Appropriate for customers whose storage vendor systems allow hardware mirroring.
  • MaxConnect: This newest version of XPS utilizes MaxConnect, Informix Software's solution to provide support for tens of thousands of client connections while reducing CPU demand of the database server, improving end-user response times.
  • Support for SUN Solaris 8: XPS 8.31.UD1 adds support for SUN Solaris 8, the leading operating system for providing availability, scalability, and security to organizations ranging from small startups to Fortune 1000 enterprises in the Internet age.

"This latest release of XPS demonstrates our commitment to respond to the evolving needs of our customers and to continually improve our products," said Dr. Brian Staff, vice president of marketing, Informix Software. "Our customers rely on XPS to manage some of the largest and fastest-growing databases in the world, and these improvements enhance their ability to manage their increasingly complex data demands more quickly and reliably than ever before."
