NetIQ Ships AppAnalyzer 1.0 for Microsoft Exchange

NetIQ Corporation, a leading provider of e-business infrastructure management software, announced the availability of NetIQ AppAnalyzer, a Web-based analysis and reporting tool for Microsoft Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 Server. AppAnalyzer provides comprehensive information about Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 services across the enterprise, including message traffic analysis, end-to-end message delivery times, historical and current mailbox and public folder storage data, and message content notification.

AppAnalyzer delivers Exchange Server usage information that allows IT personnel to document enterprise-wide message delivery performance, understand system usage trends, and plan for system enhancements and implement chargeback or cost recovery policies. Because AppAnalyzer can collect and summarize months of data, trends can be established and forecasted quickly and effectively. AppAnalyzer also provides useful information that spans from the IT managers who are responsible for keeping the systems up and running to the business managers who want to understand more about their e-mail-based customer contact.

"AppAnalyzer simplifies the management of Exchange services within even very large Windows NT or Windows 2000 environments," said Chris Williams, director of messaging products at NetIQ. "It provides a way to retrieve, correlate and interpret data from multiple servers, delivering a unified view of Exchange activity and performance."

Critical data is mined by AppAnalyzer from Exchange message tracking logs, user mailboxes and public folders, the Exchange or Active Directory, Internet e-mail service archives, Windows NT and Windows 2000 event logs and Internet domain registries. The software supports unattended, automatic data collection and report generation, using wizards for simplified setup.

"Exchange reporting is a critical component of an IT department's arsenal," said Matt Cain, a vice president with META Group. "Companies are beginning to invest in their systems in order to make Exchange more efficient, and they are becoming increasingly conscious of what is being sent out over their e-mail systems and the ability to monitor viruses and capacity planning is key."

More than 80 predefined reports are included and IT personnel can create their own via an easy-to-use Web-based user interface. AppAnalyzer's OLAP-based (Online Analytical Processing) data warehouse provides fast, flexible and in-depth drill-down capabilities, allowing viewers of reports to further explore presented data. IT personnel can use it to generate a variety of views, reports and charts that:

  • Verify service level agreements.
  • Identify users and departments that are consuming the most resources such as storage or bandwidth.
  • Forecast usage trends, based on weeks or months of data, to plan for hardware upgrades.
  • Assign monetary chargeback values for messaging services to departments or individual users.
  • Reveal and reduce service misuse.

By focusing on "how" enterprise-messaging systems are being used, AppAnalyzer complements other NetIQ Exchange-focused products, including NetIQ AppManager, which provides performance and availability monitoring, advanced alerting and automated management for Windows NT- and Windows 2000-based server applications and systems.
