SAS Announces AppDev Studio v2.0, Enterprise App Development

SAS Institute, a market leader in e-intelligence and data warehousing, announced the availability of AppDev Studio Version 2.0, which offers the convenience of a complete stand-alone development environment, from Web to wireless to traditional full-client applications.

Version 2.0 also offers the capability to join the power of Java on the server to OLAP reporting, further enhancing the OLAP capabilities available to users.

SPS (Europe), a SAS Quality Partner, and Outwares, a SAS Business Alliance Partner, have tested AppDev Studio 2 while working at the Janssen Research Foundation, part of Johnson & Johnson. "Developing new medicines is a lengthy and expensive process and any reduction that can be made in time-to-market can save huge amounts of money," said Etienne Baert, Web team manager for SPS. "We've built a SAS data warehouse that lets senior management track the status of all drug development projects at JRF. AppDev Studio's support for server-side Java means we can now provide management with an analytical solution that gives good response times even for remote access. This is important in the increasingly decentralized, globalized environment of drug development."

AppDev Studio provides the choice of building applications that use Java on the client and on the server, flexible CGI/HTML applications, Active Server Pages applications and traditional full-client applications - all with ease and efficiency from within one stand-alone development environment. It provides access to the proven broad server capabilities of SAS software for enterprise application development. AppDev Studio delivers flexible, powerful, easy-to-use OLAP reporting capabilities through a rich 100 percent Java based product from SAS called webEIS. All the Java tools delivered with AppDev Studio now support Java 2 and deliver drag-and-drop support for the development of Java Servlets, Java Server Pages and Java Applets that use Swing.
