Deutsche Telekom Chooses Amdocs' Fraud Management Solution

Amdocs, one of the world's leading providers of customer care, billing and order management solutions to the communications and IP industry, has been selected by Deutsche Telekom (DT), the largest operator in Europe and one of the largest worldwide, to implement a fraud management solution for local, long distance and international traffic, as a value added service for DT's entire customer base of over 46 million subscribers.

Amdocs' Fraud Management System (FMS) detects potential fraud, issues alerts, gathers evidence of fraud and facilitates the work of fraud investigators. It uses multiple technologies from diverse disciplines such as expert systems, artificial intelligence, statistics and other information theory techniques to ensure a high likelihood of success in fraud detection.

A similar version of the system to be installed at DT is already fully operational at a former US RBOC where it handles fraud management for 37 million subscribers, and by the end of Q1 2001, it will be implemented in an additional major market to support a total of 54 million subscribers. Thus Amdocs' FMS has fully proven its ability to handle the huge volumes of the world's largest telephone companies.

"Fraud management is an essential strategy for carriers operating in a competitive environment, and the implementation of Amdocs' comprehensive Fraud Management System serves notice that DT will take every measure to secure our system from fraudsters," said Olaf Heyden, senior executive vice president, Billing Services at DT. "DT was impressed with Amdocs' obvious expertise in the area of fraud detection, as well as with the flexibility, functionality and open architectural design of FMS. The ease and flexibility with which investigators can define new fraud detection rules allows us to maintain the system up to date at all times and to uncover cases of fraud with unprecedented rapidity."

Simon Cassif, president, Amdocs Europe added: "Amdocs is delighted to be expanding our long-standing cooperation with DT through this project. In the face of rising telephone fraud, this project expresses DT's confidence that Amdocs' Fraud Management System is the world-leading fraud detection system, well-suited to supporting the largest communications operators worldwide."
