Pavilion Secures 4 Optimization Patents

Pavilion Technologies Inc, one of the world's foremost enterprise analytics companies, announced it has secured two patents which are of strategic importance and cover neural network preprocessing, operation and optimization methodologies.

Pavilion's optimization solutions allow companies to analyze process data, create models of the process, predict optimal actions and automatically make the best decisions throughout the enterprise. The two patents (Patent No. 6,169,980 and No. 6,144,952) cover methods for creating and operating models with missing or incomplete data. Since the development of accurate neural network models has traditionally been dependent on historical data, the ability to create sound models based on mathematics is a breakthrough in the field of advanced process control and optimization.

In addition, Pavilion has obtained an exclusive license of two DuPont patents (Patent No. 5,640,493 and No. 5,826,249) related to training neural networks with historical time series data. These two patents are major advances in using off-line and on-line historical process data to train and re-train neural networks.

Together these four patents extend the company's patent portfolio to 45 owned or licensed patents in the fields of data aggregation, modeling, natural language representation of executable rules, supervised learning, virtual sensors, advanced process control, expert systems and optimization. Pavilion has approximately 70 additional patents pending in several areas of model-based optimization.

"These new patents reinforce our unique intellectual property advantages, solidify our existing solutions and form foundational support for our new e-business, energy transmission and distribution, and trading solutions," said Peter C. Perialas, president and CEO of Pavilion. "Our patented methodologies help our customers save time and money by making better and faster."

"Pavilion's culture is rooted in innovation. We are committed to continually build and protect our intellectual capital," said Eric Hurley, vice president of Intellectual Property at Pavilion. "Our investments in next generation processes, methodologies, and technologies will provide our customers with significant value, as they look for ways to optimize processes throughout their value chain."

Pavilion will announce its next generation enterprise optimization solution suite at the annual Optimization Solution Forum in Austin, Texas on May 13 - 17.
