CA Extends eBusiness Development w/ERwin Modeling Suite 4.0

Computer Associates International Inc (CA), one of the world's leading providers of eBusiness management solutions, announced the general availability of the ERwin Modeling Suite 4.0, one of the industry's most advanced and practical solution for the design of eBusiness applications. The ERwin Modeling Suite addresses all of an organization's modeling needs - enabling business managers, software developers, and database designers alike to easily define business processes, application components, and data models.

The ERwin Modeling Suite integrates ERwin for data modeling, BPwin for business process modeling, Paradigm Plus for component modeling, and ERwin Examiner for ensuring the consistency and quality of data models.

"The ERwin Modeling Suite has saved General Cable Corporation of Kentucky thousands of development hours in our application and deployment efforts in just eight months," said Shane Baldwin, database administrator at General Cable, a leading wire and cable manufacturer in Highland Heights, Kentucky. "This accelerated development has enabled us to quickly respond to our changing eBusiness requirements."

By enabling developers to re-engineer business processes and implement new eBusiness models with unprecedented speed and accuracy, the ERwin Modeling Suite helps companies capitalize on immediate market opportunities. The discipline that such modeling brings to the entire ensuing development process significantly improves the quality of the resulting application. The ERwin Modeling Suite also maximizes the productivity of development teams and DBAs by automating many routine tasks.

"The ERwin Modeling Suite 4.0 is the best yet," said Natalie Arsenault, administrative vice president, First Union Corporation, a Commercial and Retail Bank headquartered in Charlotte N.C. "CA's commitment to quality and dedication to their customers has resulted in an outstanding solution which includes enhancements to physical database modeling, the data glossary and improved interface and reporting."

By supporting component modeling as part of the design process, the ERwin Modeling Suite 4.0 also helps organizations better implement component-based architectures, which have been proven to result in more adaptable applications and contribute to cost-efficient code reuse over the long term.

"The lack of available experienced software engineers constrains many organizations as they try to adapt to the continuously changing nature of eBusiness," said Evan Quinn, chief research officer at Hurwitz Group. "CA's ERwin Modeling Suite helps such organizations by maximizing the productivity of existing business system analysts, developers, and information designers."

"The ERwin Modeling Suite provides a simple yet powerful environment that allows our company to design, implement and maintain powerful data warehouses," said Ian Abramson, CTO Data Warehouse, Data Vision Inc, a Canadian eBusiness consulting company servicing the North American marketplace. "The depth of the ERwin Modeling Suite provides us with the ability to quickly manage complex database projects so our teams can maintain momentum and productivity. When we create databases and data warehouses, we rely on the ERwin Modeling Suite to serve as our key repository for our database in its various stages of the development lifecycle."

Available under CA's new simplified licensing model, The ERwin Modeling Suite 4.0 includes:

  • ERwin 4.0, which speeds database design while improving quality, promotes consistent naming standards, and efficiently transforms data requirements into physical designs.
  • Paradigm Plus 4.0, which models sophisticated eBusiness applications, improves the productivity of modelers while enhancing model quality. It fully supports advanced UML capabilities as well as XML and XSL templates.
  • BPwin 4.0, which gives business process modelers more effective mechanisms for visualizing and optimizing complex eBusiness processes.
  • ERwin Examiner 4.0, which helps users identify inconsistencies that adversely affect database integrity and efficiency. Enhancements to the powerful "Teach Me" facility help modelers become more proficient.

"CA's release of the ERwin Modeling Suite, and in particular its impressive support for OMG's industry-standard UML and XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) specifications, is a welcome addition for organizations grappling with today's eBusiness development challenges," said Richard Soley, Chairman and CEO, Object Management Group. "The open architecture of the ERwin Modeling Suite, which allows integration with third-party solutions, positions it for great success in the market. We are very pleased that CA has leveraged its longstanding participation in OMG's UML standardization process to produce this world-class solution."

The ERwin Modeling Suite is the latest extension to the ADvantage family of products, which works together to provide a strong foundation for building, deploying and managing eBusiness applications.

"Responsiveness to change is a key factor for eBusiness success," said Gregory Clancy, CA brand manager, Application Lifecycle Management. "The ERwin Modeling Suite allows development teams and DBAs to determine the impact of change as well as simplifying their ability to drive their application and database implementation in a quality and time effective manner."
