NetGenesis and SPSS Form Strategic Alliance

SPSS Inc and NetGenesis announce a strategic partnership resulting in the joint development and marketing of an analytical solution for improving Web site effectiveness. The new solution, called the E-Metrics Vision Engine or EVE, will enable organizations to more effectively measure, analyze, predict and act on customer online behavior to increase marketing campaign effectiveness, customer retention and sales. The offering is scheduled for release within the third quarter of 2001.

Under the partnership agreement, SPSS and NetGenesis are teaming in the development of EVE. The SPSS Enabling Technologies Division is supplying the analytical components for data mining and visualization, which will be embedded in the joint solution. NetGenesis will exclusively market and sell EVE through its worldwide network of direct sales and strategic partners.

EVE is a data mining and visualization extension to NetGenesis 5, the company's application suite for Web site analysis through e-metrics. With this new capability, users can go beyond history-based analysis to predict Web site visitor behavior and drive smarter personalization, as well as transform high-volume Web data into the critical information executives need to make better decisions.

EVE enables business managers to define flexible groups of Web pages called SuperPages. Automated data mining techniques are then applied to SuperPages to segment visits and users into groups, called SuperVisits and User Segments. By analyzing these groups, business managers can improve complex Web initiatives from marketing spending, to site design improvements, to customer acquisition, conversion and retention.

"Unless an enterprise systematically analyzes, predicts and monitors customer and prospect desires and the enterprise's response to them, it will not be able to continually raise the bar in customer-centric business," said Bob Moran, vice president and managing director at the Aberdeen Group. "By combining their institutional knowledge as represented in their predictive and measuring technologies and consulting expertise, SPSS and NetGenesis are now able to expand and deepen the dimensions of customer-centric applications."

"Our partnership with SPSS represents a revolutionary product that will empower our customers with the ability to dramatically improve the effectiveness of their online marketing and financial initiatives," said Larry Bohn, NetGenesis president and CEO. "EVE will provide our customers with critical insight about their online business that is essential for profitability."

"Our partnership with NetGenesis capitalizes on our respective superior technologies, areas of expertise and services capabilities," said Jack Noonan, SPSS president and CEO. "Together, we are providing customers with access to SPSS and NetGenesis analytical technology and expertise in one complete package: an advanced analytic solution to capture and analyze Web data to optimize online customer relationships."

Continued Noonan, "Our agreement with NetGenesis is proof of our commitment to developing partnerships with leading organizations that can effectively use SPSS analytical components in markets where they have particular expertise. It is also proof of SPSS' commitment to delivering analytical solutions that will enable companies to develop more profitable customer relationships."

In addition to the joint development of EVE, the agreement provides for the NetGenesis Professional Services Group to use Clementine, the award-winning SPSS data mining workbench, to augment the company's strategies and internal analysis capabilities.

"NetGenesis' professional services staff have unsurpassed industry expertise, which, when combined with Clementine's scalability and analytical strength, will enable us to quickly and effectively analyze large volumes of Web data to derive essential e-metrics for our customers. It is a key addition to our data mining capabilities," said Mary Sullivan, vice president of professional services at NetGenesis.
