Sybase Integration Partnerships Complete the BI Value Chain

Sybase Inc announced it has completed the integration of Sybase Industry Warehouse Studio software with offerings from business intelligence market leaders Cognos, Business Objects and MicroStrategy Incorporated. This completes Sybase's strategic, end-to-end business intelligence value chain, which encompasses data acquisition, data modeling, metadata management, data analysis, data storage and analytic applications. The value chain solution results in an infrastructure that can be implemented by customers with reduced risk and accelerated implementation of business intelligence applications.

Sybase Business Intelligence software supplies the core elements of the value chain through its Industry Warehouse Studio and Adaptive Server IQ Multiplex product lines. Previously, Sybase announced a strategic partnership with Informatica to complete the data acquisition aspect of this end-to-end solution. Today's announcement complements that partnership and completes the architectural vision.

"One of the key differences in Sybase's approach is that the analysis is both broad and deep, so the level of integration achieved is significant," said Jacqueline Sweeney-Coolidge, senior analyst for the Hurwitz Group Inc. "At the same time, it is implemented on an open architecture, which lets customers utilize the data store and front-end tools of their choice. This means that the Sybase Business Intelligence infrastructure reduces risk and impact to an organization's existing business systems while providing them with a jumpstart toward competitive advantage."

Eric Miles, general manager and senior vice president of Sybase's Business Intelligence Division, said, "Our value chain dramatically reduces the time it takes to implement a business intelligence solution and produce actionable intelligence. A project that would normally take two years to develop can now be reduced to six months. This adds up to significant savings and a compelling return on investment as well as competitive advantage."

The Sybase Business Intelligence Division targets third-party application vendors who use this end-to-end infrastructure to develop actionable intelligence solutions, which they sell to their own customers. Sybase has worked with Compudigm and EDS, among others, to develop analytic applications that allow businesses to make decisions and take actions in real time not after the fact.

How the Products Interact Within the Sybase Value Chain

Informatica software extracts data from CRM, ERP, legacy and other external systems. Sybase's business intelligence offerings, Industry Warehouse Studio and Adaptive Server IQ Multiplex, manage the extracted data in conjunction with data warehouses from various vendors, offering additional scalability and vertical-industry customization. Products from Cognos, Business Objects, MicroStrategy and Compudigm allow for the data to be mined, visualized, analyzed and acted upon. EDS offers analytic applications allowing end users to interact with data.
