Computer Associates Announces Release of Ingres II 2.5

Computer Associates International Inc (CA) announced the release of version 2.5 of Ingres II, CA's relational DBMS and application development environment. This latest release contains enhancements to further maximize system integrity and optimize development efficiency.

Ingres II 2.5 extends the ability of organizations to cohesively develop and maintain robust, scalable solutions across a variety of platforms, including OS/390, Windows, OpenVMS, Unix, and Linux. Other enhancements include improved file management capabilities for larger file sizes.

"The ability of Ingres II 2.5 to easily handle file sizes in excess of two gigabytes allows us to manage large files without compression," said Ruggero Rinaldi, CIO, Marifin S.p.A., a storage service provider headquartered in Rome, Italy. "These and other Ingres II 2.5 enhancements dramatically improve our ability to access and leverage mission-critical data, increasing our productivity significantly."

Ingres II version 2.5 also provides integrated HTML publishing capabilities, supporting rapid development of high-performance Web-based applications. Enhancements to Ingres ICE (Internet Commerce Enabled) permit the secure interchange of information between business systems and external parties via the Web, thereby adding a new dimension of interaction with suppliers, distributors and customers.

Additional features - including remote access and high availability replication - extend user access to a wide variety of enterprise data. Performance enhancements include file size and memory support improvements, optimized row-level locking specifications on a table or user basis, and enhanced Internet security.
