Informix's XPS a Strong Performer Independent of PlatformInformix Software, the database company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Informix Corporation, announced that it has demonstrated consistently strong performance, reliability and scalability on a variety of hardware platforms in the TPC-H 300 GB and TPC-H 1000 GB in single and multi-node testing. There is an inherent difference between platform agnostic software and software that is optimized to run on specific hardware. The benchmarks were run using Informix Software's Extended Parallel Server (XPS) versions 8.30 FC2, 8.30 FC3, 8.31 FD1, the company's high end data warehouse product. "As TPC-H measures performance in responding to unpredictable and demanding ad hoc queries, it represents one of the most reliable benchmarks in evaluating a database's strengths in meeting the demands of decision support environments," said Brian Staff, vice president of marketing at Informix Software. "The proven ability of XPS to quickly and accurately handle complex mixed load queries demonstrates its fundamental advantages in delivering customers a robust data warehouse or operational data store solution to best meet their business needs." The TPC-H test results show the versatility of XPS on different hardware platforms, independent of configurations or size of the benchmark. XPS was the only server to score within the top five running on a variety of different platforms and different configurations. In all of the performance benchmarks XPS garnered the highest rankings, independent of the benchmark size or configuration, even against competitive products optimized for the test in configuration and benchmark size.
XPS is designed to meet the increasingly challenging requirements of business-critical, enterprise-wide data warehousing, as it enables fast data loading and comprehensive data management. Based on "shared nothing architecture," XPS offers near-linear scalability while supporting virtually any query or schema design on a variety of different platforms. "We chose XPS because of its proven track record of providing optimum performance on our hardware platforms," said Michael Jennings, Group Manager of Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing at Hewitt Associates. XPS 8.30 FC2, 8.30 FC3 and 8.31 FD1 are generally available today, and the hardware and operating system used in the TPC-H benchmark are available now.
