In her new role, Shanahan will guide Unica's privacy policies and practices, lead initiatives that will strengthen Unica's ability to enable its customers to protect consumer privacy and help increase public awareness of the company's efforts in these areas. Shanahan joined Unica in October 2000 as general counsel. In addition to providing Unica with advice and counsel on strategic business and legal issues, Shanahan has been actively involved in the privacy arena. Currently, Shanahan sits on the privacy committee for the Personalization Consortium, an organization dedicated to balancing personalization and privacy in the CRM industry. In addition, Shanahan will undergo extensive privacy training and serves as a member of the Association of Corporate Privacy Officers (ACPO) and as an active participant in the Federal Trade Commission's workshops on privacy.
