ORINCON PIONEERS TECHNOLOGY TO STREAMLINE FDA APPROVAL

ORINCON Technologies Inc (OTI) announced the successful completion of a major contract with an innovative life sciences company. ORINCON joined with California-based BioQ to create a knowledge management system that promises to improve efficiency in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) product approval process, saving life science companies millions of dollars and speeding life-saving drugs to market. The contract is another example of ORINCON's providing advanced information technologies to the life sciences industry.

The ORINCON-led development team designed BioQ's first product, IQ(1). This product uses individual professional profiling, custom-designed intelligent search agents, and interactive technologies to help biotech professionals pre-process, search and evaluate scientific and regulatory data sources. The software finds relevant information scattered across the Internet, in medical commercial information databases and in a user's own corporate proprietary databases. Importantly, IQ(1) reduces research, authoring and publishing efforts, and proactively updates users on evolving regulatory requirements specific to their industries. IQ(1) is scheduled for release in June 2001.

ORINCON integrated the software solution devised by BioQ into an Internet-based software, giving biotech professionals one resource to pre-process, search and evaluate scientific and regulatory data sources. ORINCON's expertise in this area enabled BioQ to bring the product to market faster.

"ORINCON's skilled team allowed us to develop a product that empowers the knowledge worker in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or medical device company, making that person infinitely more efficient," said BioQ's president and CEO Jeff Anderman. "ORINCON's Internet experience, combined with their deep talent pool of software experts, was the perfect combination to jump-start development of our core knowledge management product."

In related news, BioQ also announced an alliance with Accenture to jointly develop, market and implement solutions that support regulatory intelligence and knowledge management throughout the research and development, and regulatory processes. As part of the agreement, Accenture will receive an equity stake in BioQ.

"The amount of information available to biotech companies is growing rapidly," noted OTI President Michael Chaffin. "The industry needs a tool that will allow researchers to quickly gather relevant information from many different sources. ORINCON Technologies prides itself on solving complex problems of this kind and devising business solutions that work, so we were pleased to be able to contribute our expertise to the development of IQ(1), a product we believe will revolutionize the way drugs are brought to market."

Chaffin said IQ(1) is now being tested using 1.1 million documents extracted from the Food and Drug Administration's online Web site, the National Library of Medicine's holdings, and other sources.

IQ(1)'s individual profiling system enhances productivity by filtering the overwhelming volume of available knowledge into a focused subset of resources. Experts from BioQ created dozens of detailed scientific and regulatory profiles that focus on the specific needs of each user.
