XOR INC TECHNOLOGY INVENTION ACHIEVES PATENT-PENDING STATUS

XOR Inc, a provider of eBusiness application and systems management services, announced that it has invented an applied artificial intelligence technology that can analyze complex combinations of information, identify unexpected patterns, and extrapolate from them likely outcomes for the future. XOR has initially applied this technology to its VisionPort business performance insight service, which monitors and analyzes a client's strategic business metrics in real time. Bringing new meaning to the term "business intelligence," this technology enables VisionPort to automatically anticipate a business problem based on historical patterns and then proactively alert an executive that the issue requires attention.

XOR's invention has been accepted by the U.S. Patent Office for "patent pending" status, which means that it is in the final stages of review before receiving full patent protection. The co-inventors are Chief Technology Officer of XOR Inc, Trent R. Hein, and XOR's Director of Infrastructure Engineering, Ned McClain. The two technologists are also co-authors, along with XOR's Evi Nemeth, of the Unix System Administration Handbook, Third Edition, already in its third printing after only eight months.

"This development is an example of how applied artificial intelligence can sometimes outperform the human mind. This technology can do in seconds what it often takes a full team of people to do over the course of months, if at all," said Hein. "As used in VisionPort, it is helping our clients become aware of interdependencies among business variables that they sometimes don't realize exist. For example, it may notice that a retail product's margin declines every time it rains in Chicago, except for when the company has recently run a promotion on a specific radio station during a specific time period. Therefore, it can monitor weather predictions and alert the marketing executive in time to arrange for a special promotion. Most importantly, it will automatically know when that correlation ceases to exist and then identify new, significant patterns."

Though the technology has wide-ranging applications, XOR intends to initially focus on using it to help financial services, retail and consumer packaged goods companies improve the return on their marketing investments, shape marketing plans, and capture market share.

Unlike any other business intelligence solution in the marketplace, VisionPort integrates various eBusiness and corporate performance data from multiple tools and legacy systems to present strategic business performance intelligence to a company's executives, customized to their individual functional areas. VisionPort gives an executive an integrated business view, instead of a raw statistical view, which enables a company to take rapid actions that will impact the bottom line. Executives can access a summary digital dashboard in a variety of ways, including hand-held wireless devices such as PDAs and cellphones.
