SURVEY.COM REPORTS STRONG GROWTH DESPITE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN

Businesses will increase their annual spending by nearly 74% in the next three years on data warehousing and business intelligence (BI) solutions, according to newly released research from Survey.com, a leading eResearch services company. The study reveals that businesses of all sizes continue to make sizeable investments in data warehousing and BI projects. While current annual spending on average is just over $480K, within three years that will rise to well over $800K.

"The warehousing and BI market will weather the current economic downturn better than many other segments of the technology market," said Nancy Stewart, program director for Enterprise Computing Research at Survey.com, "although it isn't entirely recession proof. Even as spending as a whole is increasing, the spending on initial implementations is down by about 40% from what we found in last year's study. This reflects in part the current volatile market situation but it also reflects the change in the market -- more, smaller sized solutions are being implemented and more packaged software and cost effective components are becoming abundant."

As revealed in the study, the many small solutions that are being implemented will grow rapidly in size and scope, just as the number of existing solutions is expanding. This will drive the demand for more products and services, particularly for packaged software and storage. A majority of businesses indicate they will increase budgets most significantly in these two areas. Data storage requirements are exploding and the need for more front-end analytic tools and applications is flourishing.

Database Solutions IV, which is now available from Survey.com, is the fourth edition of the seminal study of the warehousing and BI market. Based on online interviews with nearly 600 IT and business professionals, this study examines the trends, issues, and future direction for the growing and evolving warehousing and BI market.
