Onyx Announces Next-Generation, Internet-Native Architecture

Onyx Software Corporation, a global supplier of customer-centric, e-business enterprise solutions, announced its new multi-tiered Internet architecture. Built entirely on standard Internet technologies, the new platform enables large enterprise organizations to deploy and maintain high-performance, fully-customized Internet-based customer relationship management (CRM) systems in less time and at a much lower cost than required with traditional client-server solutions.

"Our XML-based application server is a major breakthrough for large organizations struggling with the high costs and technical complexities of integrating data from traditional CRM systems, eCRM systems, partner systems and other corporate applications," said Mary Reeder, vice president of research and development for Onyx. "Our use of XML as a foundation technology was key to delivering an enterprise-wide suite of business objects that are easily customized and extended to model unique business processes using graphical Web administration tools. In addition, because XML is an emerging standard for data exchange, our platform greatly reduces the cost of seamlessly integrating to other third-party applications and legacy systems residing on a variety of operating systems and application platforms. This flexibility in conjunction with our industry leading scalability -- over 30,000 concurrent users -- makes Onyx the leading choice for large companies seeking to deploy multi-organization customer management networks over the Internet."

"Companies can no longer afford the long deployment cycles and high maintenance costs associated with customizing and scaling traditional enterprise-class CRM systems," according to Forrester Research Inc. "By migrating to a Net-Native architecture, Onyx gives even the largest, most complex companies an infrastructure that enables them to quickly incorporate new technologies and applications to support emerging business models."

According to Forrester, Net-native applications will dominate by 2005 as Web applications convert to Net-native platforms and enterprise application owners become e-business network service providers.

The new Internet architecture is designed to give large, complex enterprises a single, flexible platform for effectively managing mission-critical customer and partner relationships in a highly personalized and targeted way. The new architecture is centered on the Onyx Enterprise Application Server (OEAS), the company's new XML-based integration and customization platform. This object-based platform enables customers to integrate directly to other enterprise-class systems and leading middleware products through industry standards, including Extensible Markup Language (XML), Component Object Model (COM) or Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP).

"With this new architecture, we can rapidly extend, scale and customize the platform for our specific needs," said Edward Lux, ChemPoint.com's director of technology and operations. "This flexibility is critical to delivering the ROI we demand in a reasonable timeframe."

Internet-Native Architecture

Built from the ground up with open, industry standard Internet technologies, the Onyx architecture is designed for interoperability and distributed customer relationship management. The thin-client portal suite is designed for rapid deployment across a broad spectrum of end users with easy, centralized application administration.

XML Integration Framework

The Onyx Enterprise Application Server (OEAS) is designed to support enterprise-class integration through the use of a data-driven architecture that manages data natively as XML, and uses XML for customization and integration. All communications within the application, all integration around the application, and all user interface communications are managed using only XML.

Vertical-Ready, Extensible Platform

The Onyx platform has been designed for easy customization and extension of the application to support the unique requirements presented by distinct vertical markets and distinct deployment topologies. The data-driven extensibility inherent in the platform is critical to systems integrators, outsourcing partners and customers who are seeking to build specialized solutions that support the business process and partnerships that are fundamental to their businesses.
