Java Luminaries Shine at JavaEdge

SYS-CON Media announced its keynote speakers for the upcoming East Coast "Edge" event, which will be held September 23-26 in New York City. Speaking Monday, September 24th, is James Gosling, vice president and Fellow of Sun Microsystems Inc, and Alan Baratz, CEO of Zaplet Inc, former president of JavaSoft, and president of the Software Products & Platforms Division at Sun Microsystems. Sean Rhody, JavaEdge conference tech-chair and founding editor of Java Developer's Journal, and Jeremy Geelan, editorial director of SYS-CON Media, will introduce opening keynotes.

Tuesday, September 25th, the conference will open with a panel discussion titled "Web Services Paradigm." The keynote panel will be moderated by Rick Ross, founder and president of Java Lobby, and the panelists will include James Gosling, Alan Baratz, Kevin Lynch (president of Macromedia), Bruce Scott (CEO of PointBase and cofounder of Oracle), Greg Kiessling (CEO of Sitraka), and Rod Smith (IBM's chief Java strategist). Steve Benfield, WebServicesEdge conference tech-chair and founding editor of Web Services Journal will introduce the keynote panel.

Kevin Lynch will deliver the afternoon keynote and Jeremy Allaire, founder of Allaire Corporation and the creator of ColdFusion, will address the super session. Finally, on Wednesday, September 26th, the featured speakers will be renowned visionary Bruce Scott in the morning and Scott Dietzen, chief technology officer of the BEA E-Commerce Server Division, in the afternoon. All keynotes will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the New York Hilton, New York City.

"As a large-scale international Java event, JavaEdge 2001 fills a big void in both the financial capital of the world and Silicon Alley," said Fuat Kircaali, founder and CEO of SYS-CON Media. "This year, JavaEdge will be colocated with SYS-CON's first annual WebServicesEdge International Web Services Conference & Expo and offer an unmatched technical program, including accelerated certification tracks for leading enterprise tools such as IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, Oracle 9i, and Macromedia ColdFusion, in addition to Sun's Java University program."

"For the second year in a row SYS-CON's New York developer event is expected to sell out before the conference date," said Cathy Walters, vice president of SYS-CON Events. "Last year we closed registrations approximately one month before the conference date and turned down walk-in registration requests for the SYS-CON event that took place at the same location. Although this year we doubled the conference space and increased the educational track offerings from five to ten simultaneous sessions, we've already received more than 1,000 delegate registrations even before we announced the conference schedule and opened our online registration program."

"The JavaEdge 2001 Expo floor has also been doubled in size from last year's SYS-CON event at the same location," said Grisha Davida, vice president of SYS-CON Media. "However, this year and going forward, we will extend sponsorship opportunities to companies by invitation only since the expo floor still will not accommodate all vendors that expressed an interest in participating in this exciting technology event."
