CA Extends Support for Managed eBusiness DevelopmentComputer Associates International Inc (CA), announced the latest additions to its powerful solutions for eBusiness information management that enable organizations to quickly build and integrate mission-critical Web/EJB applications. The latest versions of COOL:Gen 6.0 eBusiness Edition, the advanced application development tool, and COOL:Joe 2.0 for Enterprise Java, the comprehensive J2EE/EJB development environment, enable companies to deliver Java applications on an enterprise scale and to transform mainframe and UNIX applications to large-scale Web solutions that are leveraged on proven technology. The two products now provide deployment options for Web application servers such as WebSphere, WebLogic, or any J2EE-compliant Web application server. For more than a decade, COOL products have provided flexible implementation options that give organizations the ability to deliver enterprise-class n-tier applications across multiple platforms. One of the key drivers of Java adoption is the ability to "write once and run anywhere." Maintaining vendor-independence is critical to achieving this goal. "Application developers, whether corporate or commercial, all want to reduce to zero the number of wheels they have to reinvent," said Michael Dortch, principal analyst with Robert Frances Group. "With their ability to deliver critical J2EE applications running on any leading server, COOL:Gen and COOL:Joe can deliver immediate and sustained benefits to enterprises developing or deploying Web-enabled applications." Both COOL:Gen and COOL:Joe are designed specifically to help organizations fully utilize existing development resources to implement new technologies like EJB. "Tools like COOL:Joe and COOL:Gen are ideal for development organizations that are strapped for resources and need technology that can produce real productivity gains on a given development project," said Glynis Gore, executive vice president of LearningPatterns.com, a fast-growing Java training and mentoring firm headquartered in New York City. eBusiness enhancements in COOL:Gen 6.0, along with its integrated modeling environment and 100 percent automatic code generation, enable development teams to take advantage of new technology without requiring additional investments in time and money. "COOL:Gen brings industrial-strength stability and performance to our Web applications," said Rita Moore, director, Electronic Commerce, American Freightways, a FedEx company specializing in freight services. "Our programmers were able to deliver Java-based Web solutions within days." By providing integration with existing applications, components and data through CA's Jasmineii platform, COOL:Joe 2.0 also enables customers to wrap their legacy transactions and expose them as Enterprise Java Beans. "Through new Jasmineii support in COOL:Joe, J2EE applications can be easily integrated with legacy systems," said Sanjay Jairam, chief technical architect for 7irene, a firm that offers consulting, implementation, integration and brokering of Enterprise Java eCommerce solutions. "This offering, together with the COOL:Joe powerful UML component modeling, demonstrates that EJBs can be used for legacy integration solutions and not just for new eBusiness development." COOL:Gen and COOL:Joe are key components of CA's eBusiness Transformation and Integration portfolio, which provides the application and deployment services necessary to integrate disparate applications, databases and business partner systems. "As eBusiness has continued to mature, Java has steadily grown from a Website development tool to a core technology for enterprise applications," said Wasim Ahmad, vice president, application development solutions, CA. "CA's support has grown accordingly, as we continue to bring corporate development teams the solutions they need to fully leverage the flexibility and power of enterprise Java architectures."
